Position Summary
The Mechanical amp; Plumbing Virtual Construction Manager (VCM) is responsible for leading virtual and construction (VC) efforts for mechanical sheet metal, piping and plumbing systems from preconstruction/engineering or estimating through project VC completion. This role bridges the Advanced Construction Planner (ACP) efforts and fabrication by leveraging VC, coordination, and constructability expertise to reduce risk, improve efficiency, and support successful project delivery.
The VCM collaborates closely with the ACP, designers/detailers, trade partners, and field teams (via ACP) to ensure coordinated, accurate, and buildable models that align with project goals, schedules, and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
Virtual Construction (VC)
  • Lead VC execution for mechanical sheet metal, piping, and plumbing scopes across assigned projects
  • Coordinate production output of the VC team against budgets by utilizing company discipline leads
  • Oversee coordination efforts across trades and quality control for mechanical and plumbing systems
  • Ensure models reflect fabrication requirements, and installation means and methods
  • Work with discipline leads, ensuring labor tracking and extra work authorizations are being presented in a timely manner
Coordination amp; Clash Resolution
  • Work with the in-house Technology Lead to facilitate multi-trade coordination meetings and clash detection workflows
  • Identify, track, and resolve clashes and constructability issues proactively
  • Collaborate with ACP, design teams, and trade partners, as needed, to resolve conflicts efficiently
Preconstruction amp; Project Support
  • Support preconstruction efforts, including constructability reviews, phasing plans, and logistics modeling
  • Provide VC input for estimating, scheduling, and risk mitigation
Field amp; Fabrication Integration
  • Support field teams with model-based layout, installation drawings, and visualization tools
  • Coordinate models for prefabrication and modular construction efforts
  • Maintain alignment between models, shop drawings, and as-built conditions
Technology amp; Process Improvement
  • Champion VC's best SOP’s, guidelines, and workflows
  • Assist in the evaluation of new software.
  • Mentor and support VC team members and detailers
Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical and/or plumbing VC
  • Strong understanding of mechanical sheet metal, piping, and plumbing systems, installation methods, and construction sequencing
  • Proficiency with VC software Revit, Revizto, ProCore, and coordination platforms
  • Experience leading trade coordination and clash detection processes
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with mechanical prefabrication and modular construction
  • Familiarity with field layout tools (RTS/Trimble) and model-based construction workflows
  • Experience working with large, complex piping, ductwork, and plumbing models
  • Familiarity with CPM scheduling, estimating, or construction analytics
  • Ability to work with both salaried and union staff members working both in office, onsite, and remote locations.
Reporting Structure
  • Reports directly to the Director of VC
  • Direct reports include
    • ~5 in-house detailers
    • 5+ remote detailers
    • Any 3rd parties being used for Staff Augmentation
