Maintenance Trades Helper- Laborer Sheet Metal Trainee
General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), located in Pawcatuck, CT has been supporting the US Navy Submarine and Surface Ships for over 30 years. We are a full-service organization ranging from concept development through installation. We support all facets of the ship building industrial base including Engineering, Design and Drafting, Precision Machining, Sheet Metal, Structural Fabrication, Welding, Finishing, Electronic Assembly, and Installations. We are located right between Groton, CT and Quonset Point, RI offering an easy commute and ample parking outside the building for a quick 30 second walk to your work area. Job Description Summary:

Work within the Sheet Metal Shop, assisting in the operation of CNC machinery, deburring parts, and learning the precision sheet metal trade. Responsible for performing various tasks to aid daily operations of the Sheet Metal Shop. Good attitude and aptitude to learn and be willing to invest their time into the trade.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting senior employees in operation of CNC Punch Press, Waterjet Cutting Center, and Press Brakes to fabricate sheet metal product. Keeping other employees in department supplied with materials and tools. Cutting of sheet and blanks for shop machinery using hydraulic shears and cutting tools. Break-out of parts off Punch Press and Omax Waterjet. Cleaning of work areas, machines, and equipment. Delivery of parts to other departments and areas of facility.

Education and Experience:

0-2 years of related experience

Requires a high school diploma or GED.

Technical or Vocational Training preferred but not required.

Skills and Abilities:

Understanding of shop math.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to operate power and hand tools.

Ability to work within a motivated small team.

Able to lift 50 pounds or more on daily basis.

Willing to invest and shows initiative and quality craftsmanship.

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $15.06 - $20.38. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
