Medical Director, Transplant Hepatology

AMN Healthcare is partnering with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) to recruit a Medical Director of Transplant Hepatology to lead a collaborative, rapidly growing program in Milwaukee, WI. In this role, you will shape quality initiatives, mentor faculty, and drive programmatic growth alongside accomplished transplant surgeons and a seasoned Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team. This role provides 40% protected time, strong institutional support, and a new Digestive Disease Center (opened in 2024) that reinforces MCW’s commitment to innovation and patient-centered care. With increasing annual liver transplant volumes and a culture that values teamwork and continuous improvement, this is a platform to elevate outcomes, advance education, and build a best-in-class service for patients across Wisconsin and beyond.


Opportunity Highlights

  • Lead the Transplant Hepatology program as Medical Director
  • Four half days/week of protected, nonclinical time. 
  • Guide quality, safety, and growth initiatives in partnership with Transplant Surgery and GI & Hepatology. This position does not require an endoscopy call (covered by GI). 
  • Mentor a collegial group of four senior and one junior hepatology faculty; two additional junior hires planned.
  • Supported by 5 outpatient APPs and 2 inpatient APPs with strong hepatology backgrounds; daily GI & Hepatology fellow inpatient engagement, including weekends.
  • Call currently is1:4 (week blocks) with pathway to ~1:7 as hiring progresses. 
  • New Digestive Disease Center (2024); dedicated transplant ICU and multidisciplinary rounds streamline care. 
  • Competitive package: base in the mid $400,000s plus bonuses ($40,000–$60,000+), sign-on/relocation, and annual CME funds. Total compensation potential: low $500,000s. 
  • No travel for outreach; virtual outreach and regional growth are strategic priorities. 
  • Teach fellows, residents, and students within a high-volume academic network.
