About this roleResponsible for fostering independent learning by supporting students in developing learning strategies and reviewing concepts taught in class. Provides individual tutoring and organized study group sessions. Collaborates with supervisors in the review and development of lab resources and programming.
Acceptable education required in one of the following related areas: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, Science, Astronomy, Secondary Education or greater, Engineering, Computer Science, Anatomy & physiology, Accounting, Biology, or other related discipline.

What a day of a Lab Tutor, Math looks like:

  • Conducts tutoring sessions with individual or multiple students in person and virtual environment.

  • Provides constructive feedback and suggestions on student assignments.

  • Reviews lab materials and evaluates usefulness of lab resources on a periodic basis to ensure accuracy of information.

  • Acts as liaison with departments within area of discipline. Encourages use of lab by students through communication with faculty and development and delivery of lab orientation programs.

  • Assists with initiatives aimed at improving student retention and completion.

  • Participates as active member within the assigned clusters.

  • Creates an engaging learning environment and enhances student confidence and interest in learning.

  • Maintains an awareness of current College and department policies and guidelines.

  • Maintains and enhances current knowledge of field or profession. Travels to training workshops, conferences, meetings and professional events outside of college locations, as needed.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Associate's degree in related discipline

  • One year of related experience

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

Ability to:

  • Ability to convey knowledge of tutorial discipline to others in a practical and comprehensive manner

  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public

  • Research information for problem solving

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

Education and Experience:

  • Experience with remote tutoring

Skilled in:

  • Collecting, organizing, analyzing, and presenting information in a meaningful manner

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification

  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds
