Continuing Education Fitness Instructor (Part-Time)
KENNEDY-KING COLLEGE
Kennedy-King College is seeking enthusiastic and community-focused Fitness Instructors to develop and deliver engaging fitness and wellness courses through our Continuing Education program. This role offers an exciting opportunity to design innovative classes, inspire diverse adult learners, and contribute to the growth of health and wellness programming across the college and broader community.
Successful candidates will be passionate about fitness, committed to creating inclusive learning environments, and motivated to help recruit and retain participants through outreach, engagement, and marketing efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate fitness and wellness classes for diverse adult learners.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that accommodates various fitness levels and abilities.
  • Track attendance and maintain accurate class records.
  • Motivate and support students in achieving their wellness and fitness goals.
  • Promote fitness classes and assist with student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Participate in outreach, community engagement, and marketing initiatives designed to increase program visibility and enrollment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to students and community members.
  • Stay current with industry trends, fitness methodologies, and wellness best practices.
  • Collaborate with Continuing Education staff and other college departments to support program success.
  • Propose and develop new course offerings based on industry expertise and community interests.
  • Deliver instruction in person and, when applicable, through virtual learning platforms.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or higher required. Relevant certifications, professional training, and industry experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Experience leading group fitness classes or wellness programs preferred.
  • Current industry-recognized fitness certification(s), such as:
  • ACE (American Council on Exercise)
  • NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine)
  • AFAA (Athletics and Fitness Association of America)
  • Or equivalent fitness certifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fitness principles, wellness practices, and injury prevention.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate participants from diverse backgrounds and fitness levels.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing or growing fitness, wellness, or community-based programs.
  • Experience promoting classes and increasing enrollment through marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Experience working with adult learners in educational, community, or recreational settings.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
