Job Summary
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and CDHW seek a strategic communicator to lead knowledge translation efforts that make disability-related research accessible and actionable. This grant-funded role reports to the CDHW Managing Director and offers a flexible, hybrid schedule. You will develop and implement knowledge translation strategies, transforming research into engaging, accessible formats for diverse audiences including patients, families, clinicians, policymakers, and researchers. You'll collaborate with internal teams and external partners to amplify CDHWs impact and ensure alignment with Michigan Medicine communications standards.
Responsibilities*
  • Develop and adapt comprehensive knowledge translation strategies across CDHW projects
  • Translate research into accessible formats using plain language principles
  • Align departmental communications with PMR and Michigan Medicine strategies
  • Manage consultants supporting content creation and production
  • Support promotion of in-person and virtual events
  • Enhance CDHW?s brand and manage social media platforms
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health communications, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5-6 years in patient education, implementation science, or communications
  • Experience developing multi-format knowledge translation products (e.g., infographics, briefs, videos)
  • Proven ability to manage consultants and collaborate across teams
  • Strong writing and editing skills for diverse platforms
  • Proficiency in social media strategy and trends
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Desired Qualifications*
  • Familiarity with disability justice and patient education practices
  • Experience with accessibility standards for diverse disabilities
  • Knowledge of U-M brand standards and communications environment
  • Experience with AI tools for content development
  • Web strategy and content management (Drupal preferred)
  • Background in academic, clinical, or research settings
  • Personal or professional experience with disability advocacy

Modes of Work

This is a term-limited appointment. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
