Description Title: Educational Specialist (Simulation Lab Technician) Position Number: 0079534T Hiring Unit: School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (Translational Health Science Simulation Center) Location: Manoa Campus / Honolulu Date Posted: June 24, 2026 (Readvertisement) Closing Date: July 16, 2026 Band: A Minimum Monthly Salary: Salary Schedules and Placement Information Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time, 100% Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: This position will support the operations of the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) UH Translational Health Science Simulation Center (THSSC). The UH THSSC brings real-life scenarios to the classroom so that students can gain the experience, confidence and skills they need to provide quality care. The center integrates state-of-the-art equipment, electronic patient records and practices currently used by the state's leading medical centers.

Duties and Responsibilities: ** Serve as Simulation Lab Technician responsible for the set-up, operation, and maintenance of the simulation equipment in the UH Translational Health Science Simulation Center (THSSC). ** Operate and control manikin functions; provide verbal responses in scenarios; assist with simulated patient sessions; troubleshoot technical issues in real-time; and other duties to ensure smooth operation of the simulation experience

** Clean and maintain equipment, supplies and facility after simulation sessions. ** Assist simulation specialists with the demonstration of THSSC equipment including simulators and the standardized patient program. ** Assist THSSC team members with integrating new equipment and software into the functions of the Center.

** Provide technical support to simulation specialists in the training and orientation of internal and external users. ** Assist with programming scenarios into simulator equipment, collaborate with team to revise existing scripts to correspond to the goals of a particular session and/or audience's level of experience, and develops directions for each simulator instructor. ** Prepare facility, medical supplies, materials and instruments, and equipment for simulation sessions for High Fidelity, Low Fidelity (dry lab), standardized patients, faculty and others.

** Manage and maintain inventories of simulators, equipment, and supplies, and keep software and hardware configurations updated. ** Assist with the annual and mid-year equipment preventive maintenance and inventory for THSSC. ** Conduct educational tours of THSSC.

Participate in departmental strategic planning and orientation/training of new THSSC staff. Maintains files of simulation cases and modules. Other duties as assigned.

(**) Denotes Essential Functions Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in education, social science, communications, education technology, healthcare or related field and one (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for customer service in a laboratory setting, training, or operations support in an education setting, health care; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in training, service-oriented occupations or operational support demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with training, interpersonal relationships, or operational support.

Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the training, servicing situations, or operational support environment. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.

Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. Demonstrated ability to acquire new skills and learn new techniques to operate technology and equipment in a health care training and research environment. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and make quick, decisive decisions in a changing health training and research environment.

Desirable Qualifications: Experience with simulation learning specifically with high-fidelity, manikin and standardized/simulated patient learning. Experience working with students and faculty in an academic or research environment Familiarity with technology resources utilized in learning or research centers such as computer-based equipment, data bases, and audio visual systems. Experience providing logistical facility support, such as class, laboratory, meeting, or other activity set-up.
