Monthly Type: 11-Month Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time, 100% FTE Temporary/Permanent: Tenure-Track Other Conditions: The University of Hawai'i (UH) Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) invites qualified, dynamic and dedicated individual to apply for a tenure-leading, full-time, 11-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor under the UH Translational Health Science Simulation Center (THSSC). The UH THSSC brings real-life scenarios to the classroom so that students can gain the experience, confidence and skills they need to provide quality care.

The center integrates state-of-the-art equipment, electronic patient records and practices currently used by the state's leading medical centers. The position is expected to begin approximately June 2026 or as mutually acceptable.

Duties & Responsibilities: Manage the Translational Health Sciences Simulation Center (THSSC/Center), a clinical simulation-based educational program of the University of Hawai'i, by providing leadership, administration and operational management of the Center, with responsibilities for innovation, education, quality improvement and research in healthcare simulation. Clinical Education & Research/Scholarship Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of simulation-based education that includes policies, procedures and practice standards to ensure an integrated application of simulation-based education, events, research and other activities that are consistent with the mission, strategic priorities and objectives of the THSSC to achieve excellent patient care, enhanced safety, and improved metric-based simulation outcomes. ngage in the clinical simulation instruction of nursing and other health science faculty and students (and instructor development) in health simulation; participate in the curriculum development and creation of competency-based assessments for the nursing program.

Collaborate with faculty, professional and technical staff and users of the THSSC to design, develop, conduct and evaluate new courses, scenarios and educational initiatives. Ensure existing courses, scenarios and initiatives are validated to meet current standards of healthcare practice and simulation design best practices. Identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, implementation and integration of patient simulation technology into existing healthcare curricula.

Promote the development of clinical applications of evidence-based patient safety practice. Assist in the development of new initiatives focused on patient quality and safety. Provide instruction/guidance and remedial sim lab activities and clinical simulation instruction to students as needed.

Oversee the development of a progressive, thoughtful, and longitudinal academic assessment following best practices appropriate for the learning outcomes, among others. Advance awareness of THSSC by participating in public events and community outreach, developing new markets for simulation use, serving on professional or civic service organizations, and using various web platforms in promoting the Center. Ensure THSSC stays at the forefront of technological advances by monitoring the latest research and trends inpatient simulation, utilizing research, quality improvement, and program evaluation methods to ensure that education and services are relevant; meet student, institutional, and client needs; and adhere to accreditation standards.

Remain current with literature and professional associations relevant to healthcare simulation. Identify and submit and/or join teams to submit extramural grants/partnership funding opportunities (governmental, professional foundations, industry) for simulation education and patient safety research. Engage in research/scholarly projects consistent with the Department/Schools goals.

This is including but not limited to leading and/or participating in research, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, program evaluation, and teaching/education-focused activities. Disseminate scholarship via presentations and peer-reviewed published manuscripts (i.e. case reports, clinical updates, literature reviews, program evaluation or quality improvement reports, research reports or other commentaries) related to simulation and/or other in relevant professional journals

Provide service to the School/University and the Profession. Serve on Department, School, and University committees as appropriate. Serve the profession (membership and/or leadership in professional organizations);demonstrate progressive maturity as a clinical leader in nursing and simulation education locally and nationally.

Administration Oversee the Center's finances by preparing and managing the budget and expenditures, collaborate with the Office of the Associate Dean for Research in developing grant funding opportunities. Supervise Center team members by managing staff workflow, assessing work performance, providing training and coaching, and recommending personnel actions, among others. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree or PhD degree with appropriate clinical board certification. The degree must be awarded by a college or university of recognized standing. Current unrestricted RN license to practice in Hawai'i.

Relevant board certification or qualification in the clinical discipline of the specific position which can include certified Simulation Healthcare Educator (CSHE). Minimum of two (2) years of full-time work experience in the management and administration of a healthcare simulation program. Demonstrated expertise in the use of simulation technology for healthcare education.

Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care. Demonstrated understanding of and acquaintance with assessment of student learning outcomes, the requirements of governmental and accrediting agencies, and specific and effective assessment practices. Demonstrated competency in interprofessional team work and team science.

Demonstrated professionalism and ability to meet and confer with others. Desirable Qualification: Record of progressive responsibility in a healthcare setting(s). Certified Simulation Healthcare Educator (CHSE) - Advanced Familiarity with evidence-based practice.
