Position Purpose 

The Learning eXperience Designer (LXD) is responsible for designing and developing engaging, effective, and learner-centered experiences that build capability and support business performance. The LXD partners with subject matter experts, business stakeholders, and Learning & Development team members to identify performance and learning needs and translate them into meaningful learning solutions.

Using learning science, instructional design principles, technology, and creative problem-solving, the LXD designs experiences across multiple modalities, including digital learning, instructor-led and virtual learning, blended programs, performance support resources, and other learning experiences. The LXD uses learner feedback, data, and business outcomes to evaluate effectiveness and continuously improve learning solutions.

Responsibilities 

Learning Experience & Instructional Design:

  • Analyze business, performance, and learner needs to determine appropriate learning and performance-support solutions.
  • Apply adult learning principles, learning science, instructional design methodologies, and learner-centered design practices to create effective learning experiences.
  • Define learning objectives and design experiences, activities, assessments, and reinforcement strategies aligned with desired performance and business outcomes.
  • Design learning journeys that appropriately combine formal learning, application, practice, reinforcement, and performance support.
  • Ensure learning experiences are engaging, inclusive, accessible, and appropriate for the intended audience and delivery environment.

Learning Content Development:

  • Design and develop learning solutions across multiple modalities, including eLearning, instructor-led training, virtual instructor-led training, blended learning, videos, simulations, job aids, facilitator guides, participant materials, and performance-support resources.
  • Develop storyboards, prototypes, scripts, learning activities, assessments, and other design documentation required to bring learning experiences to life.
  • Use appropriate authoring, multimedia, and learning technologies to develop scalable and engaging digital learning experiences.
  • Apply consistent design standards and quality practices across learning materials.
  • Maintain and update learning content to ensure continued accuracy, relevance, and effectiveness.

Discovery & Performance Consulting:

  • Partner with stakeholders to clarify business needs, target audiences, desired behaviors, performance expectations, and measures of success.
  • Conduct needs analysis to identify performance gaps and determine whether learning is the appropriate intervention.
  • Recommend learning and non-learning solutions based on identified performance needs.
  • Translate complex information and business requirements into clear, practical, and learner-centered experiences.

Stakeholder & SME Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, People Business Partners, department leaders, and other stakeholders throughout the design and development process.
  • Facilitate discovery, design, and content-development conversations to gather information and align stakeholders around learning outcomes.
  • Guide subject matter experts in prioritizing and organizing content based on learner needs and desired performance.
  • Manage stakeholder feedback while maintaining sound learning design principles, project scope, and learner experience.
  • Build productive working relationships across functions, regions, and levels of the organization.

Learning Technology & Innovation:

  • Leverage the TAIT global LMS and other learning technologies to support the delivery, management, and learner experience of learning programs.
  • Evaluate and recommend learning technologies, tools, and approaches based on learner and business needs.
  • Explore emerging technologies and learning practices, including responsible uses of artificial intelligence, to improve the quality, efficiency, scalability, and personalization of learning experiences.
  • Identify opportunities to improve learning design and development processes, templates, tools, and standards.
  • Design with scalability and global application in mind, considering accessibility, localization, and varying learner contexts where appropriate.

Assessment, Measurement & Continuous Improvement:

  • Design assessments and evaluation strategies aligned with learning objectives and desired performance outcomes.
  • In partnership with stakeholders and L&D leadership, establish appropriate measures and key performance indicators (KPIs) for learning initiatives.
  • Gather and analyze learner feedback, assessment results, learning data, and stakeholder input to evaluate effectiveness.
  • Use data and insights to recommend and implement improvements to learning experiences.
  • Iterate on learning solutions based on learner needs, performance outcomes, and changing business requirements.

Project Management & Quality Assurance:

  • Manage assigned learning projects from discovery and design through development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance.
  • Establish project plans, milestones, deliverables, and stakeholder review cycles.
  • Manage multiple learning projects and priorities within agreed timelines.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure learning experiences meet established standards for accuracy, functionality, accessibility, consistency, and learner experience.
  • Maintain appropriate project, design, and learning documentation.

Position Requirements

  • High School/GED and 4+ years of relevant professional experience in instructional design, learning experience design, Learning & Development, educational technology, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in instructional design, education, learning sciences, educational technology, communications, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing learning experiences across multiple modalities.
  • Working knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, learning science, and learner-centered design practices.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts and stakeholders to analyze needs and translate complex information into effective learning experiences.
  • Experience with eLearning authoring and/or multimedia development tools.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and digital learning technologies.
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced and agile environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated commitment to quality.
  • Ability to receive, synthesize, and appropriately incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional and global teams.
  • Portfolio or examples demonstrating relevant learning design and development work are preferred.
