What is a virtual high school?

A virtual high school is an accredited educational institution that delivers high school courses and instruction primarily online rather than in a traditional classroom setting. Students can access coursework, submit assignments, and communicate with teachers and classmates over the internet, offering flexibility in terms of location and often scheduling. Virtual high schools may serve a wide range of students, including those seeking alternative learning environments, those with scheduling conflicts, or students who need to supplement their education. These schools are typically overseen by certified teachers and follow state or national education standards. Graduates from accredited virtual high schools receive a high school diploma, just like those from traditional schools.
