Position Overview

The Wellness Activity Coordinator is a village-based position responsible for planning, organizing, and leading physical activity opportunities that encourage healthy lifestyles and community participation. Activities may include group walks, hikes, berry picking outings, basketball games, fitness classes, wellness challenges, and other culturally relevant recreational opportunities.

This role serves as a local wellness champion, helping residents of all ages and fitness levels engage in activities that improve mobility, strength, flexibility, and overall well-being. The coordinator works closely with KANA's Wellness Center team to develop programs that meet the unique interests and needs of their village community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead group fitness and wellness activities for village residents.
  • Create engaging opportunities that encourage physical activity and community participation.
  • Facilitate activities such as walking groups, outdoor recreation events, fitness classes, and wellness challenges.
  • Utilize virtual and online tools to support programming and increase participation when appropriate.
  • Adapt activities to accommodate participants with varying fitness levels and abilities.
  • Maintain attendance records and provide participation reports to the Wellness Center Manager.
  • Promote wellness programs and events within the community.
  • Collaborate with KANA Communications and Wellness Center staff to advertise activities and increase engagement.
  • Provide feedback regarding community interests, wellness needs, and program opportunities.
  • Participate in required trainings and maintain professional certifications.
  • Travel to Kodiak as needed for training and program development activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Interest in fitness, recreation, community wellness, or health promotion.
  • Ability to motivate and engage individuals of diverse ages and abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and organize community activities.
  • Experience leading group activities, fitness classes, recreation programs, youth activities, or community events.
  • Knowledge of village culture, traditions, and community interests.
  • Basic computer and technology skills, including email, virtual meeting platforms, and social media.

Certifications

  • Current Group Fitness Instructor Certification (ISSA, NSCA, NASM, AFAA, ACE, or equivalent), or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire through KANA-sponsored training.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire through KANA-sponsored training.

Work Schedule

This is an on-call position averaging approximately 4-6 hours per week. Hours are flexible and may vary based on community activities, events, and seasonal programming needs.
