**LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY**
Summary:
The Houston Astros are currently seeking an ESL Teacher, Asheville Tourists (Asheville, NC), who will operate under the direction of the Manager, Player Education & Life Skills. Candidates shall be responsible for working with a small group of Houston Astros minor league baseball players on their English skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Serve as ESL teacher for international students.
  • Teach English classes when the team is at home, approximately 2-3 times a week.
  • Lead engaging virtual English classes on occasion, as needed
  • Plan and submit lesson plans on a weekly basis
  • Use research-based strategies for second language acquisition and effective, positive classroom management strategies
  • Submit student evaluations to Manager, Player Education and Life Skills as requested.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and report concerns to Manager, Player Education and Life Skills
  • Consistently communicate and collaborate with Manager, Player Education and Life Skills

Qualifications:
  • The candidate must be based in Asheville, NC or within 50 miles.
  • The candidate must be generally available to work late morning or early afternoon hours from June 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026 (additional virtual teaching opportunities available throughout calendar year)
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required, bilingual candidates encouraged to apply
  • Bachelor's degree in education, development, or related field preferred
  • Certification in teaching & ESL is a plus
  • Candidate should have teaching, tutoring, or other education experience
  • Experience working with athletes and knowledge of baseball preferred
