Job description

Adelante: Who We Are

Adelante Schools is redefining what’s possible in public education. Based in Indianapolis, we serve K–8 scholars through exceptional neighborhood schools that are academically rigorous, deeply joyful, and rooted in community. Our goal is simple and ambitious: to prepare scholars for the paths they choose, including college, leadership, and a life of impact.

We don’t just talk about great schools. We build them. That means strong academics, meaningful relationships with families, and a scholar experience that is both challenging and full of joy. Our core values of Optimism, Swing, Ownership, and Solidarity are not posters on a wall. They show up in how we work, how we lead, and how we show up for each other every day.

We are Crew.

At Adelante, Crew is how we define our team. It is a group united by purpose, values, and commitment. No one here is just along for the ride. We are not passengers. We are colleagues, mentors, and thought partners, each actively contributing to something bigger than ourselves.

We focus on what matters.

Curriculum and Teachers: We pair the strongest curricula in the country with excellent teaching. That foundation allows our scholars and our team to achieve at the highest levels.

Great People: Great teaching builds great schools. We hire and retain exceptional people so every scholar experiences rigorous, high-quality instruction every day. We offer competitive compensation and meaningful benefits because taking care of our team is essential to taking care of our scholars.

Driven by Values: We have built a place where scholars and team members can be fully themselves and celebrated for it. Our values of Optimism, Swing, Ownership, and Solidarity drive our decisions, our culture, and our results.

Our team is the heartbeat of our mission. We invest deeply in our people through continuous development, real-time coaching, and a culture where feedback fuels growth.

If you are looking to do meaningful work alongside a team that is collaborative, ambitious, and all in, Adelante is that place. This is an opportunity to build something that matters, to grow in your craft, and to love the work you do every day.

Job Description: At Adelante Schools, our Elementary Classroom Teachers create an unmatched scholar experience—one grounded in strong academics, joyful classrooms, and a deep belief in what every student can achieve.

In this role, you will lead a classroom where scholars build the foundational skills they need for long-term success. At Adelante, we believe every teacher is a foundational reading teacher. Whether you teach Math and Science or English Language Arts and Social Studies, you will intentionally develop scholars’ reading, writing, and language skills so they can access rigorous content in every subject.

Our elementary model is fully departmentalized across all grades. Teachers specialize in either ELA and Social Studies or Math and Science, allowing you to deepen your content expertise while collaborating closely with your grade-level partner to deliver a cohesive, high-quality experience for scholars.

You’ll bring learning to life through a rigorous, engaging curriculum that extends beyond the classroom—leveraging hands-on experiences, outdoor spaces, and technology to make learning meaningful and relevant.

We set our teachers up to succeed. You’ll have access to strong curriculum, the materials you need, and a team that believes in coaching, collaboration, and continuous growth—so you can focus on what matters most: teaching and impacting scholars.

Above all, you will build a classroom culture rooted in high expectations, strong relationships, and joy—where scholars feel seen, challenged, and inspired every day.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Implement curricula and activities that meet Indiana academic standards.
  • Conduct assessments to gauge progress toward academic standards.
  • Utilize assessment data to refine the curriculum and inform teaching strategies.
  • Apply consistent rewards and/or consequences to ensure scholars adhere to the school's core values, expectations, and code of conduct.
  • Be accountable for scholars’ mastery of academic standards.
  • Contribute to grade-level and school-wide activities.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with scholars, families, and colleagues.
  • Engage actively in team meetings, including participating in an annual summer staff orientation and training.
  • Supervise scholars during classes, breaks, meals, specials, and transitions to ensure a productive learning environment and their safety.
  • Attend and engage in school events outside regular hours (e.g., family nights, scholar performances, field trips, report card nights, and Teacher-Family Conferences).
  • Uphold and promote Adelante’s core values and educational philosophy.
  • Commit to being present and engaged at the school from 7:10 AM to 4:10 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexible work times available from 2:30-4:10 PM.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to and desire for continuously improving personal practice and school culture through rigorous coaching and professional development.
  • Proven ability to contribute to and collaborate with a high-performing team toward high, equitable achievement for all scholars.
  • Outstanding emotional intelligence, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical and organizational skills.
  • Eagerness for constant observation and feedback
  • Deeply rooted belief that children are capable of reaching the highest bars we set for them
  • A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred
  • Valid Indiana State certification or proof of reciprocal licensure in a different state is required. Applicants in Indiana State-approved alternate certification programs must provide proof of enrollment.
