Job description

Summary: The VDC Planner partners with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients to plan and coordinate virtual design and construction (VDC) activities that improve productivity, safety, and project efficiency. This role applies technical knowledge of electrical installation practices to define VDC scope, support prefabrication planning, and align deliverables with project schedules. The VDC Planner provides guidance to project teams, mentors designers and technicians, resolves field coordination issues, and drives continuous improvement in VDC processes and standards through collaboration, technology adoption, and lessons learned.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with VDC coordination for subcontractors, offering basic guidance and support as needed.
  • Collaborate with clients and project teams onsite or to review project scope, schedules, and prefabrication opportunities for small to medium projects.
  • Define the VDC scope of work by planning construction activities and setting deliverable schedules to match project timelines.
  • Recommend electrical installation practices by reviewing past projects, electrical codes, and best practices.
  • Promote planning and layout standards and drive technology adoption that benefits both Interstates and its clients.
  • Collect project information and communicates changes to impacted team members. 
  • Mentor team members in design best practices by reviewing work, collaborating on projects, and delegating designs for BIM modelling. 
  • Resolves field issues by collaborating with field leaders to identify challenges and propose solutions.
  • Assesses project risks and mitigation strategies through review of project documentation.
  • Provide feedback to technicians and designers by reviewing deliverables and communicating necessary adjustments.
  • Identify and implement process improvements in VDC workflows by applying lessons learned to enhance efficiency and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education and/or Experience: A bachelor's degree in electrical construction management or a related technical field is preferred; however, candidates with an associate degree and substantial experience in electrical planning or construction will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have a Journeyman's license with 3-5 years of experience in electrical planning, design, or construction coordination, with hands-on involvement in electrical systems such as power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage installations. A strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant industry standards is essential. Candidates should have experience in project planning, including material takeoffs and resource scheduling, and demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, field teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the accurate planning and execution of electrical work. This position requires strong computer skills, good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize work, and deal with stress. Must possess the ability to work cooperatively with others. Must have a basic understanding of internal controls. Must be able to maintain a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality of critical issues. Must be able to handle the work schedule and attendance policies required at Interstates. Strong understanding of construction processes, project management principles, and building codes. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Travel Requirements: Travel will be required and will vary according to business requirements. Travel should not exceed 35% of your time.

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $70,040 to $88,000+ benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by the experience and education required, and level of responsibility. The range posted for this role represents a range that Interstates, in good faith, believes it is willing to pay at the time of this posting. The pay is determined by job related skills, training, education, and experience.
