Job description

Located at Miami Valley Hospital's Histology Department (Dayton, OH)

Full-Time Day Shift (8:30 AM-5:00 PM)

Position Summary:

The Pathology Office Administrative Assistant performs various administrative tasks to support Valley Pathology and CompuNet caregivers located at Miami Valley Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend to requests for loan of Slide/Block to outside entities.
  • Attend to materials related to Pathologists requesting Outside Consultation as per office protocol. 
  • Open and distribute US Mail and Inter-office Mail. 
  • Track Slide Send-Outs and Returns.
  • Answer and respond to phone calls in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Transfer phone calls involving complex questions and problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with faxing, copying, and processing any Pathology documents as requested.
  • Comply with all company, department, and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Promote positive communications with patients, clients, coworkers and affiliated hospital staff.
  • Organize and purge files as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Able to work in a fast-paced Medical office environment.
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, preferably with additional medical terminology and computer skills.
  • Must be proficient in data entry. 
  • Proficiency in appropriate department functions must be demonstrated after initial training.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are essential. 
  • Good customer service skills are also required.

Physical & Safety Demands:

  • Effectively organize and prioritize work in response to changing needs of Pathologists.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work productively with others.
  • Exercise sound reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Daily involvement with confidential information and data.
  • Possible exposure to hazardous and biohazard materials.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic, and health policies of the Company.
  • Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas.
  • Complete required safety training and health evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Anticipate safety hazards, act upon unsafe situations and promote safety awareness.
