Job description

The City of Topeka’s Utilities department is seeking a customer-focused individual to join our dynamic team as a Customer Service Representative. Members of our team serve as a first point of contact for customers and contractors and are responsible for providing excellent service and support for Utility accounts.

What you’ll do:

  • Answer incoming phone calls and take appropriate action as required.
  • Process customer service requests, bill payments, transfer services, and customer updates.
  • Investigate high water bill complaints and resolve, schedule inspections, and follow-up as needed.
  • Assist with data entry and maintaining office records and correspondence.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is passionate about providing excellent customer service.
  • Has excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Has the ability to problem-solve and multi-task.
  • Is proficient in the use of standard office software.
  • Has prior call center and/or data entry experience.

Hours of operation are M-F 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Work schedule will be dependent on seniority within those hours.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of clerical experience is required with one year of customer service experience preferred.

Entry rate of pay: $17.17 - $18.22 per hour, depending on qualifications
