Entity: Owensboro Health Regional Hospital | Department: Virtual Care | Work Hours: 1800-0630 | Weekend Requirements: Two | 0.9 FTE

Job Summary:

The Virtual Safety Assistant (VSA) works onsite in a dedicated Virtual Care Bunker to provide continuous remote observation and safety monitoring for hospitalized patients using audio/video technology. The VSA is responsible for simultaneous monitoring to proactively identify safety risks and escalate concerns to bedside staff according to defined protocols. This role plays a critical part in fall prevention, selfharm prevention, and overall patient safety.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with the nursing staff to maintain a safe environment according to organizational standards and policies.

  • Maintains constant visual awareness of assigned patients and prioritizes attention based on acuity and risk level.

  • Continuous monitoring of assigned patients via live video and audio feeds for safety risks, including but not limited to:

    • Falls or unsafe mobility attempts

    • Line/tube dislodgment

    • Self-harm or high-risk behaviors

    • Confusion, agitation, or elopement risks

  • Promptly notifies bedside nursing staff or designated care team members when safety concerns are observed.

  • Participates in handoff communication at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure continuity of monitoring.

  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.

  • Immediately reports equipment issues or malfunctions to appropriate technical support teams.
