Job description

Perioperative Educator

Responsible for the assessing, planning, implementation and evaluation of orientation and education programs for Periop services, Operating room, Central, nursing and hospital personnel, which shall be directed toward the achievement of excellence in patient care. Provide education to staff that provide care to newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Plan and organize hospital-wide education in coordination with site coordinators and Nursing Leadership. Plan, organize and coordinate supervisory and management training programs as directed.

Responsible and accountable for the development and application of the Standards of Care with Hudson Regional Health in an effort to enhance the quality of care provided to patients and families.

Responsible for educational courses to provide foundation to incoming Operating Rooms combining virtual computer-based learning, live lectures, video presentations, and simulation and role playing.

This educator must possess professional communication and education skills, with appropriate information necessary to develop group and individual learning plans. The Perioperative Educator will be a clinical expert when positioned in a practice setting with abilities to foster the clinical development of the staff that she/he guides. This individual will be responsible to assess the educational needs of the system on an on-going basis and to serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, educators, APNs, Management, and other healthcare providers. This educator will serve as a resource to all OR educators and will assist with system wide initiatives that promote optimal patient care.

Exposure to communicable diseases, blood and blood products, illness, hazardous chemicals, X-rays and fluoroscopy, sharp instruments and needles, and electricity when in clinical areas. Flexibility of schedule to accommodate programs on all three shifts.

Includes standing, walking, lifting; Occasionally must reach above head, carry medium to light equipment, and stoop. Transportation of educational equipment. Ability to flex work schedule to present programs on all three shifts.

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. B.A or B.S. required; Master's degree preferred.

3-5 years clinical experience in Operating Room/ Periop services. nursing; 3-5 years teaching experience and or precepting.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current NJ RN licensure required. Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Nursing required, Masterโ€™s Degree preferred. CNOR Certification Required Education experience preferred BLS/ACLS required.
