Job Overview

Title: Bookkeeper

Salary Range: $65,000 - $78,000

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

The Bookkeeper Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform full-cycle bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, tax accounts and other balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare and file HST/GST returns and payroll remittances
  • Process payroll and maintain payroll records
  • Assist new clients with setup of chart of accounts and train on processes for recording their own bookkeeping, and remain available for follow-up questions and quarterly check-ins
  • Prepare catch-up and sometimes correct messy bookkeeping as needed for preparation of year-end files
  • Prepare working papers for year-end engagements
  • Support partners and professional accounting staff with year-end files and other tax reporting requirements
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding bookkeeping
  • Communicate with partners and managers on status of jobs, deadlines and client issues
  • Maintain accurate and organized digital records


Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum 5+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public accounting firm
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting and payroll practices
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online/Desktop and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication and client service skills
  • Must have a resourceful mindset with the ability to find answers and resolve problems independently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently
  • Experience with CaseWare and CCH products would be an asset
  • Experience with other cloud-based accounting applications such as Sage and Xero would also be an asset
