Triage Medical Assistant (Contract-to-Hire)

Location: Austin, TX

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Pay: $20-22/hour

Job Description

The Triage Medical Assistant will support a call center environment focused on patient communication, scheduling, and care coordination. This role is ideal for a Medical Assistant who understands medical terminology and enjoys patient interaction but is open to stepping back from direct hands-on care. The position will involve fielding calls from patients, hospitals, and community outreach programs, scheduling in-home visits with providers, recording patient-reported vitals, and escalating clinical concerns to nursing staff when needed.

The ideal candidate is positive, dependable, communicative, and eager to jump in and help wherever needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field roughly 25-40 calls per day from patients, hospitals, and community outreach programs
  • Schedule appointments for doctors and nurse practitioners to visit patients in their homes
  • Collect and document patient-reported vitals over the phone, such as blood pressure readings
  • Transfer calls to nurses or clinical staff when appropriate
  • Communicate with patients in a professional, calm, and helpful manner
  • Use medical terminology and clinical knowledge to support patient conversations
  • Document call details and patient information accurately
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and internal systems to support daily work
  • Coordinate with internal team members to help ensure patients receive timely care
  • Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic in a fast-paced environment
  • Support overall team goals related to patient care, communication, and scheduling

Qualifications

  • 3 months minimum of recent (within the past year) Medical Assistant training or experience required
  • Recent Medical Assistant graduates are welcome to apply
  • Medical Assistant certification is a strong plus
  • Must be comfortable working in a high call volume setting
  • Ability to field 25+ calls per day required
  • Strong understanding of basic medical terminology required
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
