Tax Senior
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Senior to lead tax preparation and review for individuals, partnerships, corporations and exempt organizations. The Tax Senior will manage client engagements, ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations, provide tax planning and research support, and mentor junior staff. The ideal candidate has strong technical tax knowledge (individual and business returns), experience working with high net worth individuals and partnerships, and proficiency with tax software and bookkeeping systems.
Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and sign off on federal and state individual tax returns (Form 1040) for a range of clients including high net worth individuals (HNWI).
  • Prepare and review partnership returns (Form 1065), corporate returns (Form 1120), S-Corp returns (Form 1120S) and exempt organization returns (Form 990).
  • Lead tax planning and research projects, applying current tax law to minimize client liabilities and support business decisions.
  • Oversee a portfolio of client engagements from planning through completion, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and quality control.
  • Supervise, train and mentor staff accountants and tax associates; assign work, review deliverables and provide performance feedback.
  • Coordinate with bookkeeping teams and review QuickBooks and other accounting records to support tax positions and reporting.
  • Use tax preparation software (Lacerte, other major packages) to prepare, review and file returns; maintain efficient workflows and documentation standards.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with clients on tax positions, filing requirements, deadlines and any audit or notice issues.
  • Assist with business development efforts, including client proposals, cross-selling of services, and building relationships with HNWI and business clients.
  • Stay current on tax law changes and continuing professional education requirements; implement best practices to improve team efficiency and client service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; Masters in Tax or MS/MA a plus.
  • Licensed CPA preferred; Enrolled Agent (EA) considered.
  • 5+ years of public accounting tax experience preparing and reviewing individual (1040), partnership (1065), corporate (1120/1120S) and exempt organization (990) returns.
  • Demonstrated experience with high net worth individuals and complex tax situations, including multi-state filings and investment income reporting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of partnership allocations, corporate tax issues, and pass-through entity taxation.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software (Lacerte preferred) and familiarity with QuickBooks and other bookkeeping/accounting systems.
  • Excellent tax research skills and ability to apply guidance to practical client solutions.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring experience, with ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and communication skills; client-facing experience required.
  • Commitment to continuing professional education and staying current with tax law and regulatory changes.
