Job description

The position will support dynamic, agile projects implementing firmware designs across all phases of the development lifecycle, to include design, development, test, and operational support / user feedback. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently as well as within a team setting on the design, implementation, and maintenance/troubleshooting of new and existing software solutions.

The candidate must be self-motivated, be a self-learner, and able to work well within a dynamic schedule. Candidate must show ability to effectively communicate with various team members, customers, as well as communicate with vendor support. Candidate must be able to leverage modern industry standard technologies for engineered solutions and be able to provide status of design efforts. This candidate may be expected to support more than one project at a time, bringing their knowledge and experience to help not only their primary project but be able to support other projects address critical issues and challenges.

This position is available in Colorado Springs, CO, and the candidate needs to be willing to travel approximately 10%.


  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related degree
  • 2-5+ years of work related experience
  • Familiar with VHDL and/or Verilog to develop complex modules in an FPGA
  • Familiar with VHDL and/or Verilog to develop test benches for simulation at a module level
  • Familiar with Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Build, route, analyze, and test FPGA designs
  • Learn how to Integrate DSP solutions from DSP Engineers
  • Work directly with software engineers to integrate designs
  • Use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc
  • Programming languages: VHDL, Verilog, C/C++, Python
  • FPGA Tools: Xilinx Vivado and Vitis.
  • Simulation / Debug: Aldec, ModelSim, Questa, and Chipscope
  • FPGA Platforms: Xilinx MPSoC, RFSoC, Artix-7, and Virtex
  • Source Code Editors like SlickEdit or VSCode
  • Experience with Git, SVN, or similar version control system
  • Experience with hardware components like microcontrollers, peripherals (ADC, DAC, SPI, I2C), and communication protocols (UART, USB, Ethernet, AXI)
  • Experience and expertise in using debugging tools such as internal logic analyzers to resolve firmware issues
  • Experience using and understanding non-volatile storage technologies such as EEPROM, NVRAM, and ROM
  • Ability to learn, take ownership, and deliver high-quality results in an unstructured environment
  • Experience in scoping effort to accomplish a task
  • Ability to effectively work in a team (IPT environment)
  • Applicant selected must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued security clearance up to a TS/SCI level

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience developing embedded systems and Xilinx Vitis (MicroBlaze, ARM Cortex, Versal ACAP)
  • High-speed interfaces such as JESD, PCIe, 100GbE
  • DSP experience (FEC, modulation, demodulation)
  • Modem experience
  • Board-level design
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Bitbucket, Bamboo, Confluence)
  • Strong understanding and experience of embedded system concepts, including real-time operating systems (ROTS), memory management, and interrupt handling

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
