Job Description:
POLITICO is seeking an associate producer, podcast video to join our growing audio and video team.
POLITICO has a strong and growing portfolio of video podcasts, and we're adding a producer/editor to our team. The ideal candidate is a strong video editor with a passion for creating compelling video experiences for YouTube and social platforms. You'll take multi-camera podcast recordings and shape them into polished, engaging episodes that keep audiences watching, while creating standout clips that extend the reach of POLITICO's journalism across platforms. POLITICO's video podcasts include Energy, The Playbook Podcast, The Conversation and more. Sharp news judgment, a deep understanding of U.S. politics, and an instinct for pacing, storytelling and audience engagement are critical, along with excellent video editing skills.
Some of our daily production takes place outside conventional work hours, in the evening. Please indicate your willingness to work a later shift in your application.
Who You Are:
  • A sharp, news-driven visual storyteller who thrives on speed, clarity and editorial precision

  • Passionate about crafting engaging long-form YouTube shows from podcast recordings

  • Proficient in the rhythms, personalities and power dynamics of Washington politics

  • Comfortable juggling multiple projects while maintaining high visual and editorial standards

  • Curious, observant and quick to spot the moments, reactions and exchanges that make great video

  • Audience-minded, with an instinct for growing loyal YouTube and social audiences

  • Collaborative by nature and proactive about communicating across teams

What You'll Do:
  • Edit and produce filmed podcast episodes into polished, engaging YouTube shows, incorporating graphics, b-roll, archival footage and other visual elements that enhance storytelling

  • Create compelling clips and highlights from podcast episodes for YouTube Shorts, Instagram, TikTok and other social platforms

  • Collaborate closely with podcast hosts, producers and the video team to shape the visual identity and editorial quality of POLITICO's video podcasts

  • Identify opportunities to elevate conversations through pacing, visual storytelling, graphics and supporting news footage

  • Work with POLITICO reporters and editors covering politics and policy to support video storytelling

  • Pitch creative ideas for expanding the reach and impact of POLITICO podcasts through video

  • Collaborate with teammates on script edits, fact checking and video revisions

  • Coordinate with the audio and video teams to meet production schedules and publishing deadlines

What You'll Need
  • 1-3 years of experience editing digital video, with experience producing podcast video or multi-camera interview content preferred

  • Expertise in Adobe Premiere. After Effects and Photoshop competence is a strong plus

  • Experience with multi-camera editing workflows, syncing footage and delivering broadcast-quality audio and video

  • Strong understanding of YouTube storytelling, pacing, audience retention and thumbnail/title best practices

  • Familiarity with YouTube Studio, audience analytics and performance metrics is a plus

  • Ability to edit quickly and cleanly for a variety of platforms

  • Comfort shooting in studio, in the field and remotely when required

  • Appetite for D.C. politics and insider knowledge

  • Confidence working with high-profile newsmakers and talent

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Social media chops and a strong understanding of video best practices across platforms

Compensation:

About Us.
POLITICO illuminates the forces shaping global power. Since 2007, we have delivered intelligence that anticipates tomorrow's headlines, not reports on yesterday's news. As politics has increasingly become the defining force of our era, our work has never been more vital.
Cabinet secretaries and Ministers start their mornings with our analysis. CEOs shape strategy around our reporting. Advocacy leaders rely on our insights to move policy. We deliver the straightforward facts and clear-eyed analysis they need to navigate the most complex political landscape of our lifetimes.
Our 1,100+ publishing professionals across the world's key democratic capitals-Washington, Brussels, London, Paris, Berlin, Sacramento, and New York-form the world's premier politics and policy newsroom. We tell the story of how power really works by explaining who wields it and how they plan to exercise it, connecting dots others miss and delivering scoops from sources others don't even know exist.
Innovation has always been a core tenet of our story. At launch, we bet that depth would trump scale, that talent would trump traffic, and that politics would become central to modern life. In 2011, we made another bet and launched POLITICO Pro to help decision-makers understand the business of government, transforming both how they shape government action and the business of journalism itself.
These bets have made POLITICO the most successful digital news startup of its generation and the indispensable resource for leaders who shape the future. Today, we are a rarity in media: a growing, profitable, and sustainable news organization.
POLITICO is a subsidiary of Axel Springer SE, a family-owned transatlantic media company headquartered in Berlin and New York. Axel Springer is dedicated to shaping the future of journalism in the free world, believing that a free and informed society is essential to democracy. The company's guiding principles - first articulated as The Essentials by founder Axel Springer in the aftermath of World War II - remain a cornerstone of the company's foundation today.
