Job description

Overview

Direct and plan the activities of Souto Foods Transportation. Develops annual budget and forecasts 5-year transportation plan. Oversee the daily scheduling and supervision of drivers to make timely deliveries to customers while controlling expenses within budget. Ensure that proper staffing levels are maintained. Responsible for ensuring proper training of all essential skill sets and monitors driver productivity. Responsible for all Fleet Safety measures. Responsible for meeting Company, federal, state, DOT, and local standards. Responsible for positive, union-free department. Communicate with multiple levels within the company, across the enterprise, as well as customers, and vendors. Works directly with on-site and offsite transportation vendors.

Responsibilities

Formulate and execute the transportation strategies that are aligned with corporate strategies and metrics. Ensure that drivers and the Transportation Department comply with Souto, MDI, and DOT regulations and standards to maintain consistency and minimize exposure. Achieve or beat all budgeted goals and KPI's. Develop efficient schedules for all drivers. Maintain the proper number of drivers to meet all customer delivery needs. Recruiting to assure quality individuals are screened and hired. Coordinate driver bid (if needed), evaluating outbound/inbound routes workload balance and tractor assignments and tractor bidding processes. Direct the scheduling of all deliveries to Souto retail customers to ensure schedules are met. Work with routing department to maximize load capacity without sacrificing customer service and which will reduce company operating expenses. Coordinate with routing manager to develop the most efficient delivery schedules for new customers. Develop and execute seamless cross dock activities. Work directly with the Fleet Director on all aspects of equipment. Work with the Vice President of Sales to assure that proper customer scheduling and workload balancing are achieved. Promote a "customer service oriented" culture to ensure that customer delivery schedules are met, and any problems or situations are handled to the customer's satisfaction. Evaluate and respond to changing customer requirements involving delivery and scheduling. Work with MTH to assure backhaul pickups and deliveries are on schedule. Promote safety in the Transportation Department by working with the Transportation Safety Supervisor and drivers. Drive Cam video review, coaching and discipline. Accident review. Accountable for Food Safety Modernization Act compliance from Transportation Department perspective (trailer maintenance, cleanliness, temperature control, etc.). Serves as a liaison between customers, MTH and transportation.

Qualifications

The incumbent should possess the knowledge and skill generally associated with a bachelor's degree in business or supply chain management. Master's degree preferred. Should possess 8-10 years' experience in transportation operations management. Individual should be a highly motivated, results-driven person. Must have excellent communication, organizational, and PC skills. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus. Should have CDL's. Strong verbal and written communication, leadership, interpersonal, critical thinking, and organizational skills. Expert user level of ELD softwares. Freight and backhaul experience a plus. Prior use of drop yard (hub and spoke) concepts helpful. 3-5 years of warehouse experience preferred.

Dimensions: Supervise 20-30 drivers. Dispatches 75 to 100 routes weekly. Serve on task forces, committees, and other work groups.

Direction/Responsibility: Work under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation. Develop positive relationships with company drivers to keep morale high.
