What does a video game editor do?

As a video game editor, your job is to cut and edit gameplay footage to produce game trailers and other promotional material for a game. Many details of this job depend on the current status of the game and what the company wants to show in each trailer. For example, trailers may show off the visual appearance of enemies, the game environment, or the puzzles and challenges incorporated into gameplay. ABOUT THE ROLE
This position will play a key role in creating video content for the Kalamazoo Wings. Responsibilities will include editing K-Wings commercials, promotional videos, sponsor elements, and other team content, as well as capturing video throughout each home game.
During games, this position will shoot game action, fans, atmosphere, players, behind-the-scenes moments, in-arena entertainment, and other compelling moments that help tell the story of each night at the rink.
Following each game, the footage will be quickly turned into a high-energy, compelling game recap video for use across social media, digital platforms, marketing channels, and other team communications. The ideal candidate can work quickly under tight deadlines, has a strong eye for storytelling, and understands how to capture the energy and emotion of live hockey.
This position will also work closely with the K-Wings creative and live production teams to help develop content that showcases the team, players, fans, and overall game-day experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Shoot live game action throughout every K-Wings home game.
  • Capture fans, crowd reactions, atmosphere, and game-day energy.
  • Film players, coaches and behind-the-scenes moments.
  • Capture in-arena entertainment, promotions, special events and sponsor activations.
  • Edit game recap videos and deliver them quickly following each home game.
  • Edit K-Wings commercials, promotional spots and marketing videos.
  • Edit sponsor elements and branded content for use across team platforms.
  • Create engaging social media video content from game footage and other team events.
  • Work with the creative and live production teams to identify and capture compelling content.
  • Organize and manage game-day footage for efficient editing and archiving.
  • Help develop new video concepts that showcase the K-Wings brand, players and fan experience.
  • Meet tight deadlines and turn around high-quality content quickly.
  • Assist with other video production and creative projects throughout the K-Wings season.
  • Work in a fast-paced, live sports environment where no two game nights are exactly the same.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Strong videography skills with an understanding of sports and live-event shooting.
  • Strong editing skills and the ability to tell a story through pacing, music, and visuals.
  • Experience shooting and editing sports content is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to shoot handheld, stabilized, and/or on sticks depending on the situation.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro or similar professional editing software.
  • Familiarity with Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, or other Adobe Creative Cloud applications is a plus.
  • Ability to work quickly and meet tight post-game deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage large amounts of footage.
  • Comfortable working nights, weekends, and holidays during the hockey season.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a larger production team.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to jump into whatever the production requires.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1-3+ years of professional or high-level freelance videography/editing experience preferred.
  • Sports, entertainment, live-event, or television production experience is a plus.
  • Professional reel or portfolio required.
  • Ability to operate professional video cameras and associated equipment.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro required.
  • Ability to work a flexible game-night schedule.

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Schedule: All Kalamazoo Wings home games throughout the season. On-site at the Wings Event Center a couple of days per week on non-game days, as needed. Schedule will vary based on the home game schedule, production needs, and upcoming projects. Evenings, weekends, and some holidays will be required due to the nature of the sports schedule. Flexibility is important, especially around game days and quick-turnaround content deadlines.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
