Embark on a transformative journey as a Lead Big Data Engineer - VP. At Barclays, our vision is clear –to redefine the future of banking and help craft innovative solutions. You will join a team leading a strategic transformation projects to modernize Barclays' risk calculation, aggregation, and reporting platforms. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of a unified aggregation capability that supports both Front Office and Risk functions, enabling scalable, consistent, and high-performance risk analytics across the organization. As a Big Data Subject Matter Expert, you will play a hands-on role in designing, building, and enhancing core platform capabilities, ensuring that shared services such as metadata management, workflow orchestration, operational controls, data governance, and platform housekeeping are delivered to the highest standards. You will collaborate closely with engineering, architecture, and business stakeholders to build robust, scalable, and resilient data solutions that support critical risk and regulatory requirements while driving operational excellence across the enterprise.

To be successful as a Lead Big Data Engineer - VP, you should have:

  • Deep expertise in Java, Scala, Apache Spark, Amazon S3, Hadoop ecosystem technologies, and cloud-based big data platforms, with a proven ability to design, develop, and optimize large-scale data processing solutions

  • Considerable hands-on programming experience in Java, Python, .NET, and Unix/Linux shell scripting, developing high-performance applications, automation frameworks, and scalable data pipelines in enterprise environments

  • Experience with design and implement distributed data architectures and ETL/ELT workflows, leveraging Spark, cloud storage, and modern big data technologies to process and analyze high-volume, high-velocity datasets

  • Proven experience working in highly regulated industries, delivering technology solutions that meet stringent compliance, governance, security, audit, and data privacy requirements

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, architecture, risk, compliance, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable, and regulatory-compliant data and application solutions

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Working knowledge of operating within regulated financial services environments, with experience supporting risk, trading, or regulatory technology functions and navigating complex governance and compliance requirements

  • Solid understanding of information security principles, controls, and industry best practices, including secure software development, data protection, access management, and regulatory compliance standards

  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional Agile teams, collaborating with product owners, business analysts, architects, and engineers to deliver high-quality solutions in iterative development environments

  • Ample domain knowledge of market risk and regulatory frameworks, including hands-on experience with regulations such as FRTB Standardized Approach (SA) and Internal Models Approach (IMA), and an understanding of their implementation within technology platforms

  • Deep expertise in at least one major asset class such as Foreign Exchange (FX), Interest Rates (IR), Credit, Equities, or Commodities, with a good understanding of associated products, risk measures, pricing, and trading workflows

Minimum Salary: $170,000

Maximum Salary: $230,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

  • Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
  • Innovation within the organization by identifying and incorporating new technologies, methodologies, and industry practices into the engineering process.
