Job description

Vice President (Legal Affairs)

The Vice President (Legal Affairs) position will report to the SVP of Legal Affairs in the production legal function. The role will be responsible for drafting and negotiating development / production related agreements, supervising production legal activities for television programming, and rendering legal advice with respect to STARZ’s slate of original programming.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and negotiate development agreements and related documentation (e.g. rights acquisition, writer‑producer, non‑writing EP and other similar agreements).
  • Supervise and manage production legal activities for television programming (including drafting and negotiating production‑related documents such as location agreements, leases, content/clip licenses) and rendering day‑to‑day production review (including script review and production clearance, title clearance, and fair use assessment).
  • Partner cross‑functionally with production, distribution, creative and marketing to align on issues relating to deal structure, contract interpretation and risk assessments. Manage multiple projects within production and in collaboration with other functions.
  • Supervise marketing legal clearance review and other marketing legal activities; provide legal advice and risk assessment to marketing, publicity and PR groups.
  • Help develop and implement internal processes, policies and best practices.
  • Other responsibilities at the direction of the SVP of Legal Affairs.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Member of the State Bar of California.
  • Minimum 10 years of legal experience gained in a law firm, preferably focusing on entertainment, or copyright/intellectual property; or gained in‑house as part of a television network and/or studio.
  • Knowledge of television precedents and industry common custom and practice.
  • Strong drafting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, responsible, extremely detail‑oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.

Compensation: $250,000 - $300,000.
