Job description

Fitness Center Student Worker

Provide current students and people from the community with a state-of-the-art Fitness Center offering a wide range of athletic equipment and activities for all fitness levels. This position is only open to Student Workers Up to 15 hours per week

Front Desk and Customer Service (50% of time)

Serve as information resource in response to inquiries from students, public, and college personnel regarding facility classes, activities, procedures, and policies.

Greet visitors and answer telephone.

Operate front desk, regulating who enters facility.

Handle a variety of difficult customer situations using tact, diplomacy and patience to defuse irate/angry customers, both in person and over the phone.

Perform filing and clerical functions as needed.

Facility and Equipment Operations (50% of time)

Clean equipment and facility as needed or instructed.

Check out equipment.

Inventory and maintain equipment.

Open or close facility as needed (including any related opening/closing duties).

Clean work areas at end of shift.

Keep work and service area in a safe, sanitary and orderly manner.

Maintain a high level of security for facility.

Perform other related duties to maintenance of department.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be current degree-seeking student enrolled in at least 6 credits. Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. Required Skills/Experience: Students in this job will need the following skills. You should be able to do these, or show that you can learn how (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with faculty, students and support staff.
  • Demonstrate communication skills and ability to work effectively with the public.
  • Ability to defuse anger and resolve complaints/issues.
  • Ability to work independently, consistently follow administrative procedures, and explain procedures to those unfamiliar with them.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processors, and similar office applications.
