The role combines strategic vision with hands-on technical leadership, allowing you to influence architecture, engineering excellence, and customer impact. Working closely with product, security, customer experience, and executive stakeholders, you will help deliver technology solutions that create meaningful value. Accountabilities:

As VP, Software Engineering, you will own the engineering strategy, technical roadmap, and organizational evolution required to deliver scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions. You will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities to modernize platforms, improve engineering performance, and build a culture focused on customer outcomes.

  • Define and execute the technical strategy for unifying multiple platforms into a modern, scalable architecture.
  • Lead platform modernization efforts using cloud-native technologies, generative AI capabilities, and contemporary integration approaches.
  • Build and scale a global, high-performing engineering organization across distributed teams and time zones.
  • Drive the adoption of AI-assisted development tools and practices to increase engineering velocity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Partner with product leadership to identify opportunities where technology and AI can create meaningful customer value.
  • Guide the transition toward a product operating model based on cross-functional teams, ownership, and measurable outcomes.
  • Establish engineering performance frameworks using metrics such as DORA metrics, cycle time, quality indicators, adoption, and business impact.
  • Own platform reliability, including uptime, security, service-level objectives, incident management, and operational excellence.
  • Make strategic decisions regarding architecture, infrastructure, build-versus-buy approaches, and technology investments.
  • Develop engineering leaders through mentorship, succession planning, and professional growth initiatives.
  • Establish responsible AI, security, and data privacy practices in partnership with relevant business functions.
  • Represent engineering in executive planning, technical evaluations, strategic initiatives, and organizational updates.
  • Manage engineering budgets, vendors, tools, and workforce planning to support sustainable growth.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a seasoned software engineering executive with extensive experience leading global teams, driving technology transformations, and building modern engineering organizations. You should have strong technical judgment, executive presence, and the ability to connect engineering strategy with customer and business outcomes.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, including 8+ years in senior engineering leadership roles overseeing full engineering organizations.
  • Proven experience leading globally distributed engineering teams across multiple locations and time zones.
  • Experience transitioning organizations from project-based delivery models to outcome-driven product operating models.
  • Deep understanding of Agile and Scrum practices at scale.
  • Track record of consolidating, modernizing, or integrating multiple technology platforms through rearchitecture, replatforming, or acquisition-related initiatives.
  • Strong technical expertise across architecture, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, and security.
  • Demonstrated ability to build AI-first engineering cultures, including adoption of AI coding tools and AI-powered product capabilities.
  • Experience developing accessible, inclusive, and compliant software solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence executive stakeholders and lead organizational change.
  • Experience in education technology, particularly solutions supporting teachers and students, is preferred.
  • Experience working in growth-stage or private-equity-backed environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with literacy education, structured learning approaches, or evidence-based instructional design is beneficial.
