Job description

Overview

The Vice President (VP) of Investment Accounting is an integral member of the Finance organization that supports the Vice President of Finance and CAO and is primarily responsible for managing the accounting and reporting of the Company's global investment portfolio supporting U.S. GAAP and U.S. Statutory reporting requirements. The VP of Investment Accounting is technically proficient in ASC Topics 320 through 326; (2) broad topics, including foreign currency matters, equity method accounting and consolidations, and fair value measurements; and (3) has a working knowledge of/ability to develop a working knowledge of various international GAAPs, including UK GAAP, Irish GAAP and IFRS.

The expected salary range for this role is $180,000 - 210,000.

Responsibilities

Management of all daily accounting operations and monthly financial close of all domestic and international entities' investment portfolios for U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory and local accounting bases, including coordination of the quarterly close calendar

Works with accounting policy, treasury, legal, strategy and portfolio management teams to onboard new private alternative investments and manages the booking and reporting of its periodic activity through the Clearwater LPx tool

Reviews and submits to management analytical commentary on balance sheet and income statement movements against prior periods and budget

Drives process improvement

Manages any enhancements in Clearwater

Reviews the quarterly credit allowance analysis, attends and participates in the presentation of the analysis to Senior Management at the Committee meeting, drafts and coordinates review and approval of the Committee meeting minutes

Works with accounting policy to review U.S. GAAP and U.S. Statutory technical accounting matters for investment transactions, new asset classes and/or other matters as needed, including drafting / reviewing accounting policy memorandums

Manages the completion of the investments section for the annual AM Best Survey and the year-end review of SOC I type II reports associated with our 3rd party pricing sources and investment accounting finance applications

Reviews U.S. GAAP investment related financial statement footnotes (and MD&A disclosure if/when applicable again), the investment section of the cash flow statement, roll forward of OCI, in collaboration with the Financial Reporting Team

Manages a team of seven

Qualifications

15 years or more of technical insurance/reinsurance accounting, accounting policy and/or financial reporting experience.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required.

Master's degree and/or CPA preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to identify and thoughtfully solve problems in a decisive manner.

Strong collaborator/influencer: Establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to influence and drive change.

Working knowledge of systems and technology utilized within insurance/reinsurance, accounting and financial reporting processes.

Demonstrates the ability to implement consistent and effective processes around insurance/ reinsurance accounting and financial reporting.

Effective project management and planning skills.

Experience with International entities accounting, financial reporting and operations.

Knowledge of relevant trends and information within the industry.
