Overview

What we're looking for: A Vice President, Health Media for MSL's Healthcare practice.

What you bring to the table: As an integral member of our growing healthcare team and Earned Media Center of Excellence, this person will be responsible for leading media strategy development, as well as media relations work across both pharma and consumer health accounts. We are looking for an ambitious and innovative leader with significant experience in creative storytelling that can help teams pinpoint the narrative needed for media. The ideal candidate is a true team player with the ability to think outside the box and drive results.

What you'll do:ย Anchored on one of the agency's largest and most high-profile accounts, the VP, Health Media will partner with a client at the forefront of transforming obesity and cardiometabolic healthcare. Beyond this flagship work, you'll help drive media strategy across a diverse portfolio of health brands and initiatives, from breakthrough pharmaceutical launches and culture-shaping consumer campaigns to iconic OTC brands and public health awareness efforts. The ideal candidate brings deep media relations expertise, strong health and consumer media relationships, and a passion for turning complex stories into impactful coverage. You'll also play a key role in developing strategic media recommendations for prospective clients and helping grow the agency's health practice.ย 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop media strategies including recommending tactics, targets and timing for media outreach on client milestones including data and regulatory milestones, business announcements and consumer/celebrity campaigns
  • Establish and maintain relationships with health producers and reporters, contributors and influencers to successfully execute earned and sponsored content initiatives
  • Serve as a strategic counselor to clients, providing POVs that help balance business objectives, media best practices and reporter relationships
  • Lead media training sessions for executives and subject matter experts, helping translate complex healthcare and scientific topics into compelling, audience-focused messaging
  • Develop and pitch diverse health stories to effectively engage and maintain interest among top-tier, consumer, health and relevant industry/trade publications and influencers to achieve client goals
  • Monitor client, landscape and industry coverage to proactively provide POVs to clients and inform ongoing, creative media engagement strategy
  • Maintain a deep knowledge and understanding of integrated healthcare, wellness and lifestyle media to facilitate effective strategy and execution
  • In partnership with the EVP & SVP of Health Media, write and present strategic media engagement recommendations for existing and prospective clients (memos and slides)
  • Work with account teams to help set media measurement and evaluation criteria that drive results while exceeding client expectations
  • Help identify earned media training and development needs of junior staff
  • Ability to partner with account teams to support exceptional client experience

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years media relations experience, agency or in-house experience highly preferred and healthcare experience required
  • Consumer health media experience highly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare and media trends and ability to interpret/translate science and data
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven track record of successful internal collaboration on cross-functional/multi-disciplinary teams balanced with ability to work independently to advance projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive, effective relationships with external third parties and vendors
  • Solution-oriented approach to address client and team challenges
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between traditional public relations and the use of current online/digital technology and social media
  • Ability to multi-task and proven success maintaining high quality work in quick paced environment with multiple client demands
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and media monitoring, tracking and reporting tools such as Muck Rack, Cision/PR Newswire, Critical Mention, Burrelle's, Factiva, etc.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and mentoring early career team members

ย Compensation Range: USD $121,315.00 - USD $194,220.00/Annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. Temporary roles may also qualify for participation in our 401(k) plan after eligibility criteria have been met. For regular roles, the Company will offer medical coverage, dental, vision, disability, 401k, and paid time off.
