Job Summary

Reporting to key management within the Corporate group, the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Tax is a key executive leader responsible for the strategic direction, governance, and execution of all global tax matters for a multinational organization. This role ensures tax efficiency, compliance, risk management, and alignment with the company’s overall financial and business objectives. The SVP of Tax serves as a trusted advisor to the Corporate Controller, C‑suite, executive leadership team, divisional finance and operations, and Board of Directors on all tax‑related issues across multiple jurisdictions. This is a hybrid office role based in Houston, TX.

Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global tax strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives and growth plans.
  • Advise senior leadership on the tax implications of mergers & acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures, and new market entries.
  • Monitor global tax policy developments and assess their impact on the organization.
Global Tax Compliance & Reporting
  • Oversee all direct and indirect tax compliance across jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to local and international regulations.
  • Lead global tax provision and reporting processes in accordance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., ASC 740).
  • Lead the review of the tax disclosures within the Company’s SEC filings (e.g., Form 10‑K and Form 10‑Q) for compliance with applicable standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns and disclosures, including applicable partnership tax returns.
Risk Management & Governance
  • Lead interactions with external auditors regarding tax account balances, internal controls, and disclosures within the Company’s financial statements.
  • Manage tax audits, disputes, and controversies with tax authorities worldwide, ensuring compliance with transfer pricing regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Manage the income tax process and ensure compliance with internal control requirements under SOX 404.
Operational Excellence
  • Optimize the company’s global tax structure to enhance efficiency and minimize tax liabilities within legal frameworks.
  • Drive process improvements, automation, and the use of technology in tax operations.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Business Units to integrate tax considerations into decision‑making.
  • Lead the global tax forecasting process with timely and accurate updates to the estimated effective tax rate.
Team Leadership
  • Grow, lead, and develop a high‑performing global tax team of over 10 professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Manage relationships with external advisors, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership roles in multinational corporations or major public accounting firms.
  • Strong expertise in U.S. domestic/state and international taxation, including BEPS Pillar 2, transfer pricing, withholding tax, U.S. tax treaties, and partnership compliance.
  • Proven expertise in tax strategy/planning and mergers & acquisition support within a complex, multi-entity global organization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to provide tax insights in a clear manner and translate them into actionable guidance for stakeholders.
  • Experience with SOX 404 and reporting requirements at a public company subject to SEC regulations.
  • Willingness and ability to become well‑versed in the operations of the company, ensuring the best opportunity to identify potential tax impacts and facilitate interactions with divisions and management.
  • Willingness for both domestic and international travel as required.
  • Willingness to innovate and utilize emerging technologies in the income tax provision process.
