This position is based out of Feeding America's Chicago office. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees can be in the office an average of 2 days a week (when not travelling for work) and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day "work anywhere" program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.

The Opportunity
The Director, Systems Engineer - Security leads efforts to evaluate current security needs, prioritizes and remediates weaknesses in Feeding America's security profile and runs cybersecurity operations. They work with the Vice President, Infrastructure Systems to improve processes, craft policies and procedures and evaluate security technologies and provide guidance to the Vice President, Infrastructure Systems on strategy, roadmap and risk management for the national organization. The Director, Systems Engineer - Security also works with our larger member network to council Feeding America foodbanks on cybersecurity roadmaps.

Compensation

Here at Feeding America national organization, equality is central to our mission and is an integral part of our compensation policies and structures. As such, we maintain transparent salary ranges and clearly defined practices for how our team, including new hire salary offers, moves through these ranges. You can expect us to offer the best salary up front based on these clearly defined pay practices with little room for negotiation. We make exceptions for highly experienced (multiple years of at-level experience) new hires in accordance with our pay practices. Once hired, employees have the opportunity to progress through salary ranges via regular merit increases and step promotions.
Salary Range: $128,000 - $133,000 Based on Experience
Responsibilities:

  • Leads efforts, with input from the Vice President, Infrastructure, on crafting security policies, procedures and strategy.
  • Directs and manages vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts.
  • Ensures security audits to determine password policy compliance, endpoint protection, privileged access, etc. are carried out.
  • Leads efforts to ensure cloud architecture incorporates cybersecurity needs. Prioritizes and leads efforts to remediate cloud configuration vulnerabilities.
  • Leads annual IT Risk Assessment process that dovetails into the organization's risk management process and provide input to the Board Risk Subcommittee.
  • Evaluates security technologies as needs are identified. Leads efforts with stakeholders as necessary to implement new security technologies and standards.
  • Leads efforts to continuously develop and enhance Feeding America's cybersecurity practice.
  • Cultivates and disseminates knowledge of security best practices within Feeding America and across the Feeding America network, spanning fifty states.
  • Researches and manages emerging vendors/tools and assume point of contact/Subject Matter Expert responsibilities to progress security posture of the organization.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience managing cyber security programs.
  • One or more years' experience supervising and/or leading others.
  • Demonstrated experience in crafting security policies, procedures and standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging based on audience.

Preferred Experience and Certifications:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Intune/Defender/Azure a plus.
  • Demonstrated involvement with the security community and possession of security certifications a plus.
