Job description

Job Title: Vice President of Finance

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid / Onsite)

Department: Finance & Strategy

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer / Chief Financial Officer

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced, strategic, and execution-oriented VP of Finance to build and scale our financial infrastructure, regulatory reporting framework, and treasury management. As a high-growth fintech operating across traditional money movement and digital assets, we navigate a complex state-by-state Money Transmitter Licensing (MTL) regime alongside New York Department of Financial Services (NY DFS) oversight.

In this role, you will lead our FP&A, accounting, tax, treasury, and regulatory reporting streams. You will serve as a core strategic partner to the executive team and board, ensuring strict compliance with state-level net capital and permissible investment requirements while maximizing capital efficiency across both fiat and crypto balance sheets.

Key Responsibilities1. Regulatory Finance, Compliance & MTL Operations
  • Net Capital & Reserves: Own state-by-state Money Transmitter License (MTL) and NY DFS net capital calculations, ensuring continuous compliance with permissible investment and reserve rules across all operating jurisdictions.

  • Regulatory Reporting: Oversee timely and accurate quarterly/annual filings via NMLS (Nationwide Multistate Licensing System) and state financial regulators.

  • Audit & Examinations: Lead financial preparation for regulatory exams (including NY DFS examination cycles), external SOC 1/2 audits, and annual statutory audits.

  • Asset Segregation: Establish and monitor financial controls ensuring complete separation of customer funds from corporate operational capital across fiat banking rails and crypto custody architectures.

2. Digital Asset Treasury & Liquidity Management
  • Crypto & Fiat Treasury: Manage multi-currency fiat banking relationships alongside on-chain digital asset liquidity (stables, native tokens, hot/cold wallet balancing).

  • Reconciliation: Oversee automated on-chain-to-off-chain financial reconciliations between blockchain ledger data, custodial partners, payment gateways, and core general ledgers.

  • Counterparty Risk: Assess and manage counterparty risk across banking partners, OTC desks, exchanges, and custody providers.

3. Financial Planning, Analysis & Corporate Strategy
  • FP&A: Lead budgeting, long-range financial modeling, unit economics forecasting, and scenario planning (e.g., crypto cycle stress-testing).

  • Executive & Board Partnering: Prepare board materials, executive performance dashboards, and data-driven narratives explaining financial results and regulatory position.

  • Fundraising Support: Assist the leadership team in equity/debt fundraising efforts, diligence data room management, and investor relations.

4. Accounting, Tax & Governance
  • Controllership & GAAP: Oversee monthly/quarterly close under US GAAP, including technical accounting treatments for digital assets (fair value, impairment, staking, and transaction fees).

  • Tax Strategy: Manage corporate, state, local, and international tax strategies, including state apportionment and crypto transaction tax implications.

  • Internal Controls: Establish robust internal financial controls, anti-fraud safeguards, and approval policies scaled for high transaction volumes.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive finance leadership in fintech, payments, banking, or crypto financial services.

  • Regulated Entity Expertise: Direct experience handling Money Transmitter Licenses (MTL), NMLS reporting, or state/federal financial regulator examinations (e.g., NY DFS, FinCEN).

  • Digital Asset Knowledge: Deep understanding of blockchain fundamentals, digital asset accounting standards, custody structures, and crypto market mechanics.

  • Technical Rigor: Advanced financial modeling, FP&A capabilities, and mastery of US GAAP.

  • Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics. Active CPA or CFA designation strongly preferred.

Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience scaling a finance team at a venture-backed Series B to Series D startup.

  • Background in institutional FX, cross-border payment corridors, or stablecoin issuance.

  • Proficiency with crypto-native accounting software (e.g., Bitwave, Cryptio) and modern ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite).

Compensation & Benefits (NYC Compliant)
  • Base Salary Range: $100,000 – $200,000 / year (commensurate with experience).

  • Equity: Meaningful early-to-growth stage equity package.
