Job description

Contract Controller
We are assisting our client in the search for a Contract Controller to support their finance team for an anticipated period of 5 weeks to 2 months, with the exact duration yet to be determined. This role will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the company’s Canadian assets, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting. The successful candidate will also play a key role in maintaining internal controls, coordinating audit and regulatory compliance activities, preparing tax and statutory filings, and providing financial analysis and reporting support to senior leadership.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Lead and oversee all accounting operations for Canadian assets, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Manage monthly revenue accounting, production revenues, and month-end close activities, including journal entries
  • Prepare monthly financial packages, cash forecasts, and liquidity reports for the VP Finance and CFO
  • Oversee cash management, banking relationships, bank reconciliations, GST filings, and multi-currency payment processing
  • Supervise and review the work of the General Accountant, AP Coordinator, and Production Accountant
  • Support group consolidations, intercompany eliminations, quarterly IFRS working papers, and period-end technical accounting calculations
  • Assist with interim and annual financial statements, MD&A preparation, audit readiness, and external auditor coordination
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and process improvement initiatives
  • Prepare and coordinate regulatory, compliance, tax, insurance, and statutory filings
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis, compliance support, and reporting assistance
Your strengths include:
  • CPA designation (or equivalent) with 8+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably within the oil & gas industry
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial statement preparation, consolidations, intercompany accounting, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Proven experience leading month-end close, cash management, budgeting/forecasting, audits, and maintaining effective internal controls
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to supervise accounting staff, manage multiple priorities, and provide hands-on support in a fast-paced environment
