Job description

Position Summary:

Reporting to the President & CEO, and serving as a member of the Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care (KCHPC) senior management team, the VP of Development provides the leadership, direction, and coordination of a comprehensive fundraising program that secures financial resources for all programs of KCHPC. The VP of Development will strategically plan and manage the development function to meet short-term and long-term fundraising goals. The VP of Development will build and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors and works hands-on to cultivate and solicit donations. This position works on and supports event management and fundraising, major gift giving, estate and planned giving, corporate donations, grant solicitation as well as in-kind resources. The VP of Development manages and collaborates with the development team staff as well as works with the committees and members of the KCH Board of Directors and the KCH Foundation Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to the organization; manages, hires and oversees the development team staff members.
  • Formulates the strategic fundraising and development plan, infrastructure and operational plan. This includes the build-up and generation of an annual multi-million dollar donations pipeline and cultivation ofrelated donor base, the creation and management of signature events to increase the organization's donations base, oversight and direction for estate and planned giving, continued development of organization's community profile and donor recognition.
  • Works routinely and closely with the KCH Board of Directors and the KCH Foundation Board of Directors regarding development initiatives and coordination of committee efforts.
  • Participates in discovering, cultivating, qualifying, soliciting, and stewardship of major gift prospects/donors including estate/planned gifts, which include grateful patients and family members, corporations, foundations, and service organizations.
  • Leads and supports advisory boards and community volunteers engaged in cultivating donor support.
  • Identifies and grows connections throughout a number of community constituencies for partnership opportunities.
  • Researches, prepares and presents proposals to major gift donors and foundations.
  • Works in collaboration with a team of individuals, including organization leadership, physicians, and fund development fund-raising staff to support Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care priorities.
  • Oversees budget, capital planning and cost management for the mission advancement in alignment with the organization's strategic plan.
  • Leads grant development to identify sources of funds, develop grant applications and funding proposals.
  • Collaborates and inspires others to come together to achieve common goals.
  • Communicates goals, objectives and challenges for the organization in an open, forthright manner that builds trust with the Board of Directors and staff. Understands and has a genuine appreciation for shared governance.
