Role:

Under general supervision but following established policies and procedures, this position will primarily be responsible for expanding Commercial Services' depository services at Apple. In this role, this individual will expand brand presence and drive revenue growth by strategically focusing on growing core deposits, developing new relationships, cross-selling lending, treasury management services, and fostering new growth in small and middle-market business relationships. This position will drive growth through joint calling efforts with internal partners, community outreach and networking, independent outreach, and retention and expansion of existing commercial relationships. Must have an entrepreneurial spirit, good attitude, and strong work ethic. This position will participate in the strategic planning and growth of the commercial services department.
Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to represent the credit union courteously and professionally. Exhibits member service skills and team cooperation in accordance with credit union standards. Performs duties and responsibilities in accordance with The Apple Way principles of Team Up, Serve with Purpose, Challenge Yourself, and Own It. Remains cognizant of and adheres to credit union policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act. Performs other duties and projects assigned by the Vice President and SVP Commercial Services.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement initiatives within a defined budget to grow business deposits, both interest and non-interest-bearing deposits. Drive membership growth for commercial services, cross-sell lending, and treasury management services. This includes establishing new membership growth with internal partnerships and possibly establishing new Select Employee Groups (SEGs) in the future. Planned and prepared for public speaking presentations to various economic development groups, professional associations, and networking events. This position will represent Apple in various capacities, i.e., speaker, vendor booths, etc.
  • Develop and execute a commercial business development strategy that aligns with the department and institution's growth objectives in the business vertical. Source new opportunities using strong networking and business development skills focused on growing business deposit balances.
  • Actively engage with local chambers of commerce within the credit union's footprint to foster relationships and enhance business visibility. Development partnerships with for-profit and non-profit organizations to support credit union initiatives and community development efforts. Represent the organization's philanthropic events, volunteer initiatives, and civic engagements. Serve on boards and advisory committees to contribute to regional economic growth and business advocacy. Build, grow, and maintain a strong partnership with The League of Credit Unions and Affiliates (formerly known as The Virginia Credit Union League).
  • Serve as a key representative at industry events, conferences, chamber events, and community forums to elevate brand awareness which supports commercial services and credit union brand image.
  • Support cross-functional internal teams in refining commercial banking strategies to drive sustainable expansion and profitability.
  • Identify new business opportunities through market research, member insights, and competitive analysis.
  • Drive innovation of commercial products and services to enhance member experience and overall loyalty. Proactively promote treasury management services to members and prospects. Perform annual relationship reviews and uncover and refer additional business needs.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience:Minimum 8-10 years of business development experience working with commercial, business, or small business banking departments working with small to medium-sized businesses. Experience with Treasury Management services is helpful but not required.
  • Education:BA or BS degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field. Bachelors High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
    Associate degree preferred.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization to resolve first-level conflicts, build relationships, and solicit cooperation. Discussions involve more confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
  • Other Skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to project a friendly and positive attitude over the phone. Expertise in identifying growth opportunities and executing expansion strategies. Strong business and financial acumen; familiarity with commercial, business, or small business banking. Ability to secure and manage high-value partnerships. Financial Strategy and Revenue Optimization-Strong financial acumen to enhance profitability and optimize revenue streams. Sales & Marketing Strategy-Proficiency in designing and executing targeted sales campaigns to drive member engagement. Excellent math ability and attention to detail. Excellent ability to multi-task.   • Physical Requirements: The ability to lift 25 lbs. and utilize standard office equipment including, but not limited to, PC, fax, copier, telephone, etc.
    Some travel is required via onsite visits to businesses on an as-needed basis.
