HOURLY RATE: $16.25/hr

SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs a variety of golf course support functions, including Starter, On-Course Player Assistant, Cart and Range Maintenance, and Golf Shop support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / FUNCTIONS
• Provides excellent customer service and professionally interacts with customers and other staff members.
• Performs any combination of the below duties and specialty positions as needed and as assigned.
• Informs golfers of and enforces rules and regulations pertaining to the golf course. Informs the Golf Shop immediately if any player flagrantly violates course rules, golf etiquette or safety.
• Provides tournament assistance.
• Drives a golf cart or other utility vehicle as necessary.
• Returns all lost and found items and reports any issues to the Golf Shop.
• Assists in all areas of golf shop and maintenance operations occasionally, as needed.
• Requires availability to work weekends, holidays, and a variety of shifts, including coverage for Golf Shop breaks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Starter:
• Greets players, checks receipts and controls the starting of groups, and closely monitors the pace of play.
• Provides timely updates and communications regarding pace of play, status of tee times, course conditions and other pertinent information to players and to the Golf Shop.
On-Course Player Assistant:
• Provides information to the players and public on specific rules and their intent while encouraging proper golf etiquette.
• Closely monitors flow of play on the course; investigates causes for open holes between groups; tracks pace of play with time monitoring sheet; advises groups of the required playing time; suggests methods for increasing pace of play when necessary; distributes slow play information to Golf Shop.
• Assists players with pace of play by raking bunkers, helping locate lost golf balls, and giving rides to those walking on or between holes.
Cart and Range Maintenance:
• Loads and operates range equipment in a safe and professional manner. Picks up and cleans range balls as needed. Keeps range machine full and range bucket supplies adequate.
• Maintains positive appearance of equipment and facilities (carts, range equipment, practice range, water stations, clubhouse and storage facility) by keeping them clean, updated and free of trash. Cleans carts daily which may include deep cleaning and detailing as required; inspects carts for damage or problems and reports findings to the appropriate personnel.
• Ensures a sufficient supply of golf carts for customers. Transports carts from storage to staging area and vice versa; parks carts neatly and safely in storage facility. Confirms that all carts are accounted for on a daily basis.
• Assists with staging and setup of cart fleet for daily play and tournaments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the Town of Frederick and Parks and Open Space Department.
• Knowledge of Bella Rosa Golf Course Rules and Regulations.
• Knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, and golf etiquette.
• Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public.
• Skill in written and oral communication.
• Skill in the safe and lawful operation of a golf cart or other required equipment.
• Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
• Ability to work well and communicate with the public and others.
• Ability to provide excellent customer service to the public and others.
• Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position.
• Ability to listen well, and understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to resolve problems in a mature, effective and responsible manner.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, or flexible schedules.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
• Must be at least 17 years of age.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
• Basic knowledge of the game of golf and golf course etiquette is preferred.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to lift, push, pull or carry up to 50 pounds, sit, stand, walk, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces, kneel, squat, stoop, bend, reach, turn, climb, crawl, listen, and use hands and fingers. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions. The employee is also required to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
