Job description

Position Title: SPECIALTY TRANSPORT DRIVER

Location: FIELD OFFICE

FLSA Class: NON-EXEMPT

Responsible to: REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION MANAGER

Position Summary:

The Transport Driver is responsible for transporting products between facilities, terminals, and customer locations while complying with all federal, state, local, and company policies and procedures, including the transport of overweight/oversized loads and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) equipment and/or trailers when operationally required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections of truck and trailer; report any mechanical issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Accurately maintain electronic logs and be proficient in completing paper log documentation
  • Maintain delivery tickets and bills of lading.
  • Enter all load information into the electronic reporting system at time of loading and delivery.
  • Communicate with logistics department and field management on customer issues or safety concerns.
  • Maintain cleanliness of truck and trailer.
  • Coordinate with operations and site personnel during CNG delivery, hook-up, and demobilization activities when required.
  • Load, transport, and unload fuel at terminals, stores, wholesale, and retail customers' tanks in compliance with hazardous material regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain professional relationships with team members, terminal employees, customers, and guests.
  • Ensure all activities are in compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Safely transport oversized and overweight loads in compliance with state/federal permit requirements and approved routing.
  • Perform proper load securement in accordance with FMCSA cargo securement standards.
  • Safely transport Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trailers and equipment in accordance with DOT hazmat regulations and company operating procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of height, weight, and route restrictions specific to assigned equipment.

Other Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years prior experience driving a combination vehicle required.
  • Minimum 2 years of heavy haul, flatbed, and load securement experience required.
  • Maximum of 2 moving violations in the previous three-year period.
  • Hold and maintain a current Class A Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) with hazmat, tanker, and doubles/triples endorsements required.
  • DOT medical examination certificate required. Secure and maintain necessary terminal access and governmental identification (e.g., TWIC cards) where applicable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Team Members and customers.
  • Ability to follow directives and work independently.
  • Ability to maintain a strong customer service focus.
  • Experience transporting oversized loads and/or high-pressure gas trailers preferred.
  • Knowledge of CNG equipment and high-pressure system safety standards preferred.
  • Completion of company-approved CNG handling and safety training required.
  • Longer Combination Vehicle (LCV) FMCSA certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT, EPA, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to transport and delivery.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
