Description:

Lollypop Farm is hiring for a part-time Veterinary Technician. The Vet Tech’s role is to assist veterinarians in providing surgical and medical care to shelter animals as allowed by licensure.


Schedule: Saturdays & Sundays, 8 AM - 5:30 PM each day


Essential Job Duties:

  • Assist animals through the adoption process by providing support to our veterinarians during initial health exams, surgical preparation, surgery, dental prophylaxis, anesthetic monitoring and post-operative recovery
  • Perform digital radiography and understand animal positioning techniques
  • Perform venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, and cystocentesis
  • Perform laboratory work including fecal analysis, urinalysis, cytology, titer testing and prepare samples for shipment to other reference laboratories
  • Administer medications to hospitalized and shelter patients
  • Assist with cruelty examinations and forensic necropsies
  • Work with large and exotic animals
  • Perform euthanasia
  • Maintain appropriate medical records and comply with all inventory processes
  • Provide excellent customer service to staff, volunteers and the community in accordance with Lollypop Farm values
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations for Lollypop Farm in accordance with OSHA
  • Maintain good housekeeping
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable state and Federal laws
  • Perform other duties as requested


Requirements:

Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent plus a veterinary technician degree from an accredited school and a valid NYS veterinary technician license. New graduates will be required to obtain a temporary license and successfully pass the VTNE. A combination of education and experience will be considered if aligned with the position.


Skills: Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with employees throughout the organization. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Possess expertise with clinical equipment, including, but not limited to, anesthetic machines and oxygen delivery unit, EKG, pulse oximetry, capnography, microscopy, digital radiography, doppler, and ultrasound. Intermediate computer skills.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position during shift, move throughout the building and move weight up to 50 pounds. Frequently required to communicate with others. Occasionally required to move excessive weight.
