Job description

Surgical Registered Veterinary Technician
Park Veterinary Hospital | Durham, NC
Park Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our growing team in Durham, NC. This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who enjoys spending the majority of their week in surgery while still having the opportunity to utilize their technical skills in appointments and advanced patient care.
Our busy, multi-doctor hospital is committed to providing high-quality medicine in a collaborative, team-oriented environment where technicians are highly utilized and encouraged to continue growing their skills.
What You'll Be Doing
Surgery & Anesthesia
You'll spend most of your schedule working alongside our veterinarians in surgery, providing exceptional anesthesia and surgical support.
Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing patients for surgery and performing pre-operative assessments
  • Calculating anesthetic protocols under veterinarian supervision
  • Placing and maintaining IV catheters
  • Administering medications via SQ, IM, and IV routes
  • Inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia
  • Performing intubation and extubation
  • Monitoring ECG, capnography, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and anesthetic depth
  • Maintaining detailed anesthesia records
  • Assisting with pain management and post-operative recovery
  • Preparing, cleaning, and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment
  • Maintaining surgical packs and supporting an efficient surgical suite
RVT Appointment Day
On your non-surgery day, you'll utilize your credentialed technician skills by managing RVT appointments and supporting advanced patient care, including:
  • Dental rechecks
  • Sedation and monitoring for ultrasound procedures
  • Drop-off appointments and treatments
  • ACTH stimulation testing and other technician appointments
  • Patient treatments, diagnostics, and client education
  • Assisting the medical team with hospitalized patients and procedures as needed
Qualifications
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) required
  • Strong anesthesia monitoring and surgical nursing experience
  • Comfortable placing IV catheters, collecting blood samples, and administering medications
  • Excellent communication and client education skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Passion for providing exceptional patient care and advancing veterinary medicine
