Essential Job Duties
The Hospital Purchasing Agent is responsible for assisting with inventory management, procurement, and customer relations within the Veterinary Hospital. Obtains requirements by verifying, preparing, and forwarding purchase orders; verifies receipt of items and authorizes payment.
Primary duties of the Hospital Purchasing Agent include, but are not limited to the following:
* Verifying purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to inventory reorder report; clarifying unclear items, recommending alternatives to requesters.
* Preparing purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items; obtaining approval from requisitioning department.
* Purchase items by forwarding orders to suppliers; monitoring and expediting orders.
* Verifying receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolving shipments in error with suppliers. Unpacking and stocking items on assigned shelving units.
* Authorizing payment for purchases by forwarding, receiving documentation or by initiating payment directly. Managing monthly account statements to ensure invoices are paid in a timely manner.
* Keeping information accessible by sorting and filing documents accurately.
* Providing purchasing planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
* Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
* Cross-training to assist other Purchasing Agents and Inventory Specialist as needed.
Other Responsibilities
* Must be able to work in a fast-paced, continuously changing health care environment
for a large and complex organization.
* Other duties may be assigned, as needed or warranted, by management.
