Job description

Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP is a nationally recognized Am Law 200 law firm with over 500 attorneys servicing clients in 40 offices and 22 states seeking a Practice Manager to join our Atlanta office. The Practice Manager is responsible for the business management and operational execution of assigned practice sections and, when applicable, offices. The Practice Manager serves as the primary business advisor and liaison to assigned practice sections and offices, translating firm strategy into day-to-day operational execution. This role coordinates business planning, supports section goals, reviews new matters, coordinates staffing recommendations, monitors workload and capacity, oversees operational reporting, resolves operational issues, and manages implementation of practice management initiatives and training programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary business advisor and liaison to assigned practice sections and offices.
  • Coordinate business planning activities and support execution of section goals and initiatives.
  • Review new matters and consult on staffing recommendations and assignments.
  • Monitor attorney workload, utilization, and capacity, and recommend resource adjustments.
  • Monitor compliance with matter budgets and operational expectations.
  • Prepare and review financial, operational, and performance reporting for assigned sections and, when applicable, offices.
  • Coordinate with firm departments and stakeholders to support practice objectives.
  • Collaborate with the client relations team (FMG Assurance) to align matter management with the goals and expectations of clients and carriers.
  • Resolve operational issues and escalate matters requiring leadership attention.
  • Manage implementation of practice management initiatives and training programs in coordination with the Learning & Development team.
  • Ensure consistent execution of practice management processes across assigned sections and offices.
  • Support KPI, financial, and operational reporting for assigned practice sections and offices.
  • Provide stakeholder coordination and communication support for practice management activities.
  • Support new-hire onboarding and lateral integration by coordinating with the appropriate stakeholders and supervising role-level support where applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree required, law degree preferred; equivalent law firm, professional services, project management, or practice management experience may be considered.
  • Prior experience in a law firm, legal operations, professional services, or business operations environment preferred.
  • Strong understanding of practice management, matter staffing, budgeting, operational reporting, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with attorneys, practice and office leaders, administrative departments, and firm leadership.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple practice section priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Litify, Aderant, Upfront, Intapp, financial reporting tools, workflow systems, dashboards, or related law firm technology preferred.
