Veterinary Learning And Development information

What is Veterinary Learning and Development?

Veterinary Learning and Development refers to the ongoing education, training, and skill-building activities designed for veterinary professionals, including veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and support staff. This field encompasses formal continuing education, on-the-job training, mentorship programs, and leadership development tailored to the unique needs of animal healthcare. Its goal is to ensure veterinary teams remain up-to-date with the latest medical knowledge, technologies, and best practices, ultimately improving the standard of care for animals. Professionals in this area may work within veterinary practices, educational institutions, or corporate organizations to design and deliver training programs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Veterinary Learning and Development?

To thrive in Veterinary Learning and Development, you need a solid background in veterinary medicine or animal science, combined with expertise in adult education or training program design. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, and relevant certifications such as Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) are often valuable. Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills help engage learners and coordinate educational initiatives effectively. These skills are crucial for ensuring veterinary professionals receive high-quality, up-to-date training that enhances animal care and professional development.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Veterinary Learning and Development, and how can they be addressed?

A common challenge in Veterinary Learning and Development is ensuring that training programs are both up-to-date with the latest veterinary practices and engaging for a diverse audience of professionals. Balancing the needs of veterinarians, technicians, and support staff requires tailoring content and delivery methods. Overcoming resistance to new learning technologies or protocols can be addressed through interactive modules, ongoing feedback, and demonstrating the real-world benefits of the training. Collaboration with clinical teams and leadership is also key to aligning learning objectives with organizational goals and improving outcomes.

What You'll Do:

• Focus on the health and well-being of each patient, starting with small animals with potential to expand into other areas of animal care.

• Deliver a high standard of care and adhere to practice standards related to virtual healthcare services, including veterinary telemedicine.

• Champion the support and education of pet parents through virtual consultations.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including establishing virtual VCPR and providing telemedicine services to customers.

• Maintain accurate and detailed notes and complete consultations and medical records in a timely manner.

• Employ sound professional judgment to determine if telemedicine is appropriate and suitable for a patient and, if so, provide telemedicine services, including diagnosing, prescribing, and treatment planning.

• Take appropriate steps to obtain informed consent from telemedicine clients and conduct all necessary patient evaluations consistent with standards of care.

• Act as a veterinary subject matter expert providing insights to the business as needed.

• Support Connect with a Vet affiliates in other areas where veterinary experience may be needed.

• Participate in professional development courses and required compliance training.

• Acquire and maintain licensure in good standing, including required continuing education, in the home state and any other states where licensure is necessary to provide telemedicine services through CwaV.

• Travel occasionally for team events or to represent Connect with a Vet at industry-related events.

• Support the Learning & Development team with new hire training as needed.

• Foster an environment of positivity and open communication.

What You'll Need:

• A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM, VMD) or equivalent.

• Authorization to practice within the United States (Proof of ECFVG or foreign equivalent required for international graduates).

• Current veterinary license in good standing in at least one state, preferably Virginia or New York, with ability to obtain and maintain additional licensure as required.

• 3+ years of small animal veterinary practice experience or equivalent.

• Strong typing proficiency for efficient documentation.

• Exemplary listening and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively within a virtual team-oriented environment.

• Passion for helping people and pets, demonstrated through empathy and exceptional customer service.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, self-starter environment.

• Access to high-speed internet suitable for video streaming (ability to meet speed requirements will be confirmed during interview).

• A designated, quiet working space free from distractions.
