THE POSITIONAre you a veterinary health professional interested in utilizing your skills and experience in the exciting world of horse racing? As a Domestic Animal Health Inspector with the Department of Agriculture, you will perform important work alongside Commission and Federal veterinarians to ensure that the rules, regulations, and policies of the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission are followed. DESCRIPTION OF WORKIn this position, you will support the safe and proper handling of animals in a variety of settings and help maintain confidence in animal health practices at Parx Racetrack. As a Domestic Animal Health Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
- Sample Collection: Collect blood and tissue samples from animals for testing and diagnostic needs
- Animal Handling: Handle animals safely using approved physical or chemical restraint methods
- Facility Inspection: Inspect locations where animals are kept or sold to confirm adherence to cleanliness and regulatory standards
- Regulation Compliance: Check for proper licensing, quarantine measures, and disease control practices
- Emergency Response: Assist in field efforts during animal health emergencies in cooperation with state and federal partners

Work Schedule and Additional Information:- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Hours subject to change based on racing schedule
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements:- Graduation from an approved Veterinary Medical Technology Training program and two (2) years of experience in the raising or handling of animals used for a variety of commercial purposes including food animals and farm animals; or
- A bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, or a closely related area with at least 16 credits in animal science; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirements:- This position requires possession of a valid class C driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- This position requires current certification as a Poultry Technician or the ability to gain certification during the probationary period.
