To address these challenges, Veterans RNs benefit from ongoing training in trauma-informed care, strong interdisciplinary collaboration, and a compassionate approach that respects each veteran's unique experiences.

How to get a VA job as a nurse?

To become a VA nurse, you need to meet the VA's hiring requirements, which typically include holding a valid nursing license, completing a bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN), and gaining relevant clinical experience. Applying through the USAJOBS website and preparing a federal resume tailored to VA positions are essential steps. Additional certifications such as BLS or ACLS can enhance your application, and understanding VA healthcare systems is beneficial.

Is the VA still hiring nurses?

What are Veterans RNs?

Veterans RNs are registered nurses who specialize in providing healthcare to military veterans, often working in Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals, clinics, or community-based settings. Veterans RNs or experienced nurses can reach a $300,000 annual income by working in high-paying specialties such as nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, or clinical nurse specialist, often requiring advanced certifications and education. They may also increase earnings by working overtime, in management roles, or in travel nursing positions in high-demand areas.
