Job description


Dollys Animal Clinic is looking for an experienced and energetic Veterinary Technician to join our pet care team. You will be an important part of making sure that our patients receive the best care possible. Your other duties will include providing quality customer service and making sure that all patient notes are properly updated.
Our preferred Veterinary Technician for this role must be able to perform technical skills such as venipuncture, catheterization, fecal and urine analysis, administering fluids, drawing blood, surgical prep & monitoring, as well as have good communication/ client skills. The candidate must also be able to be self-directed and not need constant supervision, and is also able to work well in a group with several other technicians.
Responsibilities:
  • Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to patients utilizing a variety of technical skills, including diagnostic sample collection, catheter placement, venipuncture, radiography, dental radiology, dental cleanings, and anesthetic monitoring
  • Assist veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients with each hospital functions ,
  • Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Obtain accurate vital signs and histories on patients
  • Document any changes of a pet's condition and vital signs appropriately in medical records and notify doctor and/or other team members of any unusual medical or behavioral problems
  • Monitor anesthesia, prep patients for surgery and minor procedures, and pro-actively set up any equipment and or tools to be used for a patient
  • Collect and process laboratory samples such as blood, fecal, urine, and ear cytologies
  • Restrain animals in a safe, efficient and compassionate manner during examinations and procedures
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital including kennels and runs, treatment areas, exam rooms, and surgery suite
  • Care and maintenance of all medical equipment including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and any other tools that are essential to daily operations
  • Communicate with clients per hospital policy in a compassionate and professional way on the status of their pet, or any questions they may have
  • Perform other duties as assigned to assist in the smooth flow of the daily operation of the hospital
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance. Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs. Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
  • Veterinary Technician Certification or Licensure (CVT, RVT, LVT, or LVMT)
  • Full knowledge of veterinary drugs including calculations and dispensing medications.
  • Must have excellent computer knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • A positive working relationship with colleagues, clients and the community, and able to work well independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexible, cooperative, dependable, responsible, and good time- management skills to work in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of proven experience working in a vet tech capacity
  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Knowledge of IDEXX blood machines preferred
  • Vetspire software experience is a plus, but can be trained
  • Able to be a team player and team-oriented
  • A friendly, warm, & pleasant personality with excellent people skills, reliability, and professional demeanor
  • The desire to learn new skills and a belief in high-quality care and high standards of cleanliness
  • Participation in background checks and drug testing
  • Veterinary Technician licensure/certification would be a plus!
