What is venture engineering?

Venture engineering is a multidisciplinary approach that combines engineering principles with entrepreneurial and business strategies to create, develop, and scale new ventures or startups. It involves identifying innovative solutions, building prototypes or MVPs (minimum viable products), validating business models, and supporting commercialization. Venture engineers often work at the intersection of technology and business, bridging the gap between product development and market needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a venture engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Venture Engineer, you need a strong background in engineering, business strategy, and entrepreneurship, often backed by a relevant degree and experience in startups or product development. Familiarity with prototyping tools, agile methodologies, and market analysis platforms is typically required. Exceptional problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for successfully developing innovative products and driving early-stage ventures from concept to market.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in venture engineering roles, and how can they be effectively managed?

Professionals in Venture Engineering often face challenges such as balancing rapid prototyping with scalability, aligning technical development with evolving business goals, and managing cross-functional collaboration between engineering and investment teams. It’s important to maintain open communication channels and agile workflows to adapt quickly to changing priorities, while also ensuring technical rigor. Building strong relationships with stakeholders and emphasizing iterative testing can help address uncertainties and ensure the viability of new ventures.

The company's Louisiana-based export projects service the global demand for North American natural gas and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies. Using reliable, proven technology in an innovative plant design configuration, Venture Global's modular, mid-scale plant design will replace traditional designs as it allows for the same efficiency and operational reliability at significantly lower capital cost.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Report to the Director, Environmental Engineering
  • Assist in the direction of strategic air permit programs for all Venture Global operated assets and Venture Global affiliated assets, including but not limited to, LNG terminals, compressor stations, metering stations, and future assets with complex technical/air quality regulatory issues. Work closely to develop strong relationships to understand specific processes and contribute to air permitting strategy to maintain maximum operating flexibility.
  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert for air dispersion modeling strategies for brownfield and greenfield projects. Closely work with air dispersion modeling consultants to ensure appropriate representation in the air dispersion models.
  • Provide guidance on air quality permitting programs, including regulatory analysis of facility design, construction, commissioning, and operations; major and minor source air permit applications, Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD), Title V, and state-level authorizations; and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Resource Report 9.
  • Advise on the development of air emissions, including the development of pre-feasibility assessments, calculating GHG inventories, and identifying opportunities for emissions reduction or energy efficiency measures.
  • Support consultants, staff and contractors in the planning and execution of air quality permitting programs and in directing or conducting independent technical reviews of deliverable work products.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS/MS in engineering (chemical, mechanical, environmental) or related degree or commensurate experience in a management role.
  • Knowledge and competency in air quality regulations, permitting, reporting, and compliance.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in air quality permitting in industrial processes, construction or operation of gas processing plants, or other chemical production facility.
  • Demonstrate technical and analytical skills with proven experience in large air quality/regulatory compliance projects or facilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to lead and work within a team with demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and direction, with strong bias toward timely performance and problem resolution.
