The Assistant Corporate Controller supports the Corporate Controller in managing all aspects of corporate accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. This role assists in ensuring adherence to GAAP/IFRS standards and contributes to accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting to support business decision-making. The Assistant Corporate Controller will also play a key supporting role in managing relationships with appropriate contacts at the Joint Venture (JV) parent companies and ensuring that all related accounting, reporting, and compliance requirements are executed effectively.
The ideal candidate is a technically strong, hands-on accounting professional with excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of both supporting leadership and driving independent initiatives that enhance the efficiency and integrity of the company's financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Core Accounting & Financial Operations:
-Support the Corporate Controller in overseeing core accounting operations
-Coordinate and assist in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of results.
-Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
-Assist in the preparation and consolidation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
-Ensure adherence to the banking reporting and other covenants
-Support compliance with financial regulations and internal control requirements, including J-SOX.
-Play key role in managing annual internal and external audits
-Help design, implement, and maintain accounting policies and internal control procedures.
-Assist with internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and coordinating responses.
-Provide support for treasury functions such as cash flow forecasting, customer credit analysis, and banking activities.
-Oversee company's insurance coverage, its renewal and administration
-Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process automation and system enhancements.
Joint Venture (JV) Responsibilities:
-Support the Corporate Controller in serving as an accounting liaison with JV parent companies to ensure clear, consistent financial communication.
-Assist with compliance and reporting requirements related to JV agreements, including financial schedules, audit coordination, and covenant tracking.
-Help manage capital contributions, distributions, and JV-related accounting entries.
-Support intercompany reconciliations and audit coordination with JV partners.
-Foster strong working relationships with JV finance counterparts to maintain alignment and transparency.
Team Leadership & Development:
-Support the Corporate Controller in leading and developing members of the accounting team.
-Supervise day-to-day work of assigned accounting staff, providing guidance, feedback, and training.
-Help promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
-Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational alignment.
Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Master's preferred).
-6-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
-Strong technical knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, financial reporting, and internal controls.
-Experience with ERP systems.
-Demonstrated success in supporting accounting operations within a corporate environment.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
-CPA certification preferred
-Experience with ERP implementation or system upgrades.
-Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Tableau).
-Audit experience preferred
-Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
-Effective collaborator with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
-Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and manage multiple priorities.
-Demonstrated initiative in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy.
