What is a private equity controller?

A Private Equity Controller is a finance professional responsible for overseeing the accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance for private equity funds or firms. They manage the preparation of financial statements, monitor fund performance, and ensure that all financial activities adhere to industry regulations and standards. Private Equity Controllers also coordinate audits, manage cash flows, and work closely with fund managers, investors, and external auditors. Their role is crucial in providing accurate financial information that supports investment decisions and maintains the trust of investors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a private equity controller?

To thrive as a Private Equity Controller, you need robust expertise in accounting, financial reporting, and fund structures, often supported by a CPA qualification or equivalent. Familiarity with investment management software, partnership accounting systems, and regulatory compliance tools is typically required.
