Job description

Job Summary

The Inventory Planning Analyst is responsible for supporting inventory planning, inventory accuracy, data analysis, reporting, and process improvement within a manufacturing environment. This role analyzes inventory trends and key performance indicators, supports replenishment planning, maintains accurate inventory data within ERP/WMS systems, and assists with inventory counts and reconciliation activities. The position works closely with purchasing, warehousing, and logistics teams to improve inventory flow, identify and resolve inventory discrepancies, optimize inventory levels, and support data-driven planning and operational decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Inventory Accuracy & Auditing

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cycle counts and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Lead and coordinate annual physical inventory audits.
  • Investigate and resolve root causes of inventory variances (e.g., shipping errors, receiving errors, damage).
  • Maintain high data integrity within the ERP/WMS system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).

2. Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Develop and generate regular KPI reports on inventory turnover, days on hand, fill rates, shrinkage, and accuracy.
  • Analyze inventory trends, forecast needs, and identify slow-moving or obsolete stock.
  • Create and maintain dashboards to provide real-time visibility into inventory levels for key stakeholders.
  • Model the financial impact of inventory decisions.

3. Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve inventory management procedures and workflows.
  • Collaborate with procurement, warehousing, and logistics teams to enhance inventory flow and reduce waste.
  • Recommend and help implement optimal reorder points, safety stock levels, and min/max parameters.
  • Support the implementation of new systems or technologies related to inventory management.

4. Operational Support

  • Work closely with the purchasing team to provide data for replenishment planning.
  • Partner with the warehouse team to address operational issues affecting inventory accuracy.
  • Assist in managing reverse logistics processes for returns and damaged goods.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in inventory control, supply chain analysis, or a similar analytical role.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, Charts, Data Manipulation) is essential.
  • Hands-on experience (1+ years) with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) or WMS (Warehouse Management System) software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across different Departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL for data querying.
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Certification in APICS (CPIM/CSCP) or other supply chain credentials.
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or e-commerce.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily in a warehouse environment located within a manufacturing facility. The role requires regular computer use and may require periodic visits to manufacturing or warehouse areas to support business activities.

When entering designated manufacturing or warehouse areas, employees may be exposed to noise, moving equipment, temperature variations, and other conditions typical of a manufacturing environment. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in accordance with company safety requirements.

The position may require occasional standing, walking, and movement throughout the facility. Any additional physical, travel, scheduling, or lifting requirements specific to the position should be identified based on the essential functions of the role.
